Any idea what a slim security slot means? Is it compatible with the Kensington?

NP730U3E:
Samsung Serie 7 NP730U3E-S03DE Ultrabook
NP740U3E:
Samsung Serie 7 NP740U3E-S02DE Touch Ultrabook
Does anybody know if the SDD will be in a standard format and/or user-upgradable?
Will the non-touch version come with optional WWAN? -
Anybody knows if the RAM is soldered or can be changed?
Is the SSD a true SSD or an msata? Is it replaceable?
Would love to hear from Series 7 13.3" owners as I guess hdd/ram upgreadability will probably be similar. -

The specs here (which come from a PDF linked to somewhere in that thread) do not indicate that the 730U3E's RAM is soldered but we wait to see whether it actually has two RAM slots. Also, the current limit of 256GB for the storage suggests mSATA. Samsung originated the mSATA SSD format and have, so far, kept to it in their own notebooks. There's a lot more discussion about the new Series 7 in that thread and sales info is available here.

German Samsung site launches product support page:
NP730U3E - Support Samsung
not much info there yet though -
Swiss/German CES press release speaks about LTE "connectivity" and "compatibility".
What does that mean? I can plug in a USB surfstick? Does anybody has information if there indeed will be a modem built-in?
Maybe the FCC codes can give a hint!?
I'm wondering because at current listings there is no sign of a modem. Which for me is a no go. -
I'll be giving the Series 7 Ultra some careful consideration for my next laptop.
Do you think it'll be updated with Haswell later this year? I really want to wait for Haswell, considering all the good press about it. -

Samsung are repeating what they did a year ago: New models were released in Q1 with the current Intel platform and were then upgraded to the new Intel platform when it became available. This is a viable strategy if the thermal design can be the same since it smooths the demand/production curve and means that the chassis development is no longer tied to Intel production.

I am really interested in this notebook. However
Does ayone got any ideas of how the hd8570 will perform? Will it be faster then the gt620m of the casus ux32vd? Is it able to play something Like anno 2060 on medium or skyrim?
And a statement of 8 hours battery, is Samsung relaible enough tot be able tot suspect a 6hour battery life? -
One thing that the specs page doesn't address is the wireless card it'll be using. Do you know or think it'll be an 802.11ac card? I really want my next laptop to have that new technology and speeds so I can also upgrade to an 802.11ac router too. -
I think I will buy this, full HD is a little small for a 13.3" but I will manage

Why is no one talking about this machine?

Not much more new info I guess. Keeping my eyes peeled though. Hopefully get a review or something soon.

guys check out this early review i found, still not sure if the ram is soldered or not.

What about the harddrive? Is it standard SATA 2.5"?
-
-
damn cant upgrade the hdd then
-
OK, I see that, interesting that they tested a version without dedicated graphics? Must be a prototype, because the ones I've seen online are with dedicated graphics.
-
you cannot upgrade an Msata hdd can you ?
for some reason i highly doubt we will be able to upgrade the ram in the final touchscreen model, anyway ill find out when i pick it up next week.
-
I think you can, but there are not many MSATA discs compared to SATA and the prices are higher.

It seems to outperform even the Samsung NSamsung NP900X4C with at least a full hour, if not much more on tests with low brightness. Which means it does outperform its closest competitor, the Asus UX32VD by even a lot more, say up to 2-2.5 hours
I can't speak Russian, and the Google translated version of the review wasn't that good. But it seems like Samsung didn't use a lot of alluminium in the notebook. -
Considering the review sample was without discrete GPU the battery tests aren't really totally comparable to the UX32VD.
Also, if the GPU version has some RAM soldered, the question becomes How much is soldered? If it's < 8GB it will mean no 16 GB + discrete -
Anymore reviews out as yet?
-
-
oh man just been informed that my order has been pushed back by four weeks. what do you guys think of the acer aspire s7 ? its a toss up between the two
-
Any hints of an optional WWAN integration?
In the upper left corner above the SSD it looks like there is indeed some space available, however I can't spot an empty MiniPCIe slot -
Dealbreakers for the S7 could be 4GB RAM soldered (if you need more) and F1-F12 keys if you use them a lot.
I hear it can be Noisy but many ultrabooks do. I would love to see more feedback from owners regarding this (non-)issue.
On the other hand, it is still as far as I know the only Ultrabook with a screen hinge optimized for touch (it hardens a lot on standard positions so it wobbles much less than most touch ultrabooks when you touch the screen), it is extremely thin and stylish,, the sdd is extremely fast and the screen is often presented as the best touch screen yet.
Tough tough choice. -
hi i have a question regarding to the processing power of this laptop, any inputs based on experience are welcome
background: i'm studying Electrical Engineering in college right now(senior yr, will go on to graduate school), i'm using Altium, Cadence, Xilinx, Eagle, C++ for schematics and PCB layout work and MOSFET design work and simulations. the projects can be large at times and my current laptop, Unibody MBP, Core 2 Duo 2.53GHz cannot handle the workload. the process of laying components on PCB and running simulations are very laggy...and i'm sick of it.
so the question: will this laptop, equipped with ULV i7 duo core manage my workload without any hiccups? or am i better off with a quad core i7 in the likes of Series 7 chronos and asus U500VZ?
this laptop has everything i look for
Full HD IPS panel
decent dGPU better than HD4000
thin and light
full metal body(once you go unibody you cant go back)
SSD
Touch screen
if it can handle my workload then i'm totally down for this -
it really is a tough choice -
Well, slower than 640le plus only 10gb ram with gpu installed makes it a non starter for me now. I too bad the chronos is 15"...

Am I the only one curious about the announced LTE option?
Samsung's global blog stated:
"The device will also be available with 4G LTE connectivity, further enhancing accessibility from anywhere (touch model based)."
Don't both the touch & non-touch share the same body?
The specific Samsung country sites don't exclude the non-touch from having LTE "connectivity" and "compatibility".
Anyway, no LTE in sight nowhere! -
Looks great, just worried about full hd on a 13.3"
-
I don't get why samsung confuses their offerings this much. All these come with discrete graphics, other countries get integrated setups, etc. ugh.. -

this is a nice notebook..
Are there any other 12"-14" ultrabook with a high res screen and a dedicated GPU other than the Asus UX32VD and the Samsung 7 Ultra?
not sure but doesn't seem like it!
what's the 3dmark scores for the 8570 card? -
