Thank You very much for quick revert.
It is a shame and Im very frustrated. First win8 nagging to swich to 8.1, then this... On one hand I want to try this options, on second - Im worried about my warranty if something goes wrong with cmos reset (heard that it is mixed bag - some succesfull attempts some... well...). Either way I'd complain loudly about this since 2+2 was my factory set (but a-data memory).
Its crazy, thank you anyway.
I'll update you guys when something pops up.

Certainly if you still have warranty, Samsung is obligated to make you whole: You are using the RAM provided by Samsung, updated to the latest BIOS provided by Samsung, and Windows 8.1 is supported by Samsung on this model. I would approach them courteously (because that generally works best) but firmly.
I vaguely recall that one member in the AB8 Owners Lounge -- where many suffered this problem after a BIOS update earlier this year -- somehow managed to work around it. I may remember wrong, but you could search or (probably better) scan backwards through posts in that thread over the last 5-6 months. If you DO find a post to that effect and it helps your situation, it would be great if you can post a link to it here, so we can include it in our list of standard answers. -
So a little update on my Noise fan issue
Ordered replacement fan online and had to take the laptop apart.
It's really hard to take it apart as you have to undo all ribbon connectors, I did take out battery, and you have to take out the motherboard in order to unscrew the fan to replace it.
Well it smoothly, just had to go slowly, and at the same time I re-pasted and the temps dropped nicely to 41c at idle.
Overall I'm happy that it was fixed, but they made it really complicated to undo fan or repaste cpu.John Ratsey likes this. -

The photos here suggest that the fan should be accessible once the bottom is taken off the computer.
Did the plan to sell the computer get put on hold?

I'm currently looking for what will be on sale for black friday, might just get a new one for myself and leave this one for wife, no longer shared laptop.
In this picture you can see screws holding the fan to mobo, those screws are only there so it won't vibrate, the actual fan is attached underneath to radiator/copper with tiny screws, so you have to take out mobo, flip it upside down and unsrew fan.
Another option would be to take out whole radiator/copper/fan assembly and unsrew fan from that, but unfortunatelly there are 5 screws holding the copper to cpu and they are again underneath mobo.
Whichever way you want to repaste/change fan you need to take out mobo.

That's a bit of a pain about the complicated removal process. The Series / Book 9 seems to be more straightforward - I've repasted the CPU without taking the board out but can't remember if I removed the fan.

I can't remember how to permanently disable the virtual keyboard toolbar in the taskbar.
I've done it before.. maybe the problem was with the elan drivers and the solution was to edit a registry key, but I cannot find the information in the thread.
Does anyone remember how to to it?
Thanks
EDIT: it seems that after a driver update the problem has been solved, no complex solutions needed
EDIT2: Nope, the damn thing has waited just for me posting the previous edit...
EDIT3: I've found the .reg I used for disabling (all) the taskbar toolbars.
If anyone is interested:

Hi everybody.
Im the owner of a NP730U3E-S01ES laptop and I can't find the answer to my question: how much memory (RAM) does it support?. I've googled and I saw 8GB and 16GB, but I didn't find a website or anything in the own catalog of Samsung where I could confirm it.
Thanks. -
Any model with a dedicated graphic card has 2GB of soldered ram so, you can upgrade only a ram module up to 8GB for a total of 10GB.
If you don't have the dedicate graphic card you have two slot for a maximum of 16GB of ram
EDIT: some models don't have any soldered ramLast edited: Jan 29, 2015 -
A few days ago i updated my BIOS version from P06ABW to P07ABW, after the update completed my notebook won't boot anymore. First i thought the update went wrong and tried to recover the BIOS in many ways but nothing worked. Thanks to this Thread and some reports of a bug in the newest firmware i switched back my stock RAM module (Samsung 4GB 2Rx8 M471B5273EBO-CKO) and surprise... it started again !
When i bought my notebook i upgraded the 4GB RAM with a single Kingston 8GB (KVR16S11/8) module which worked well until now, i really regret i installed the recent BIOS because everything was fine with the previous version (including the Win 8.1 update) .... never change a running system
Now my question: Can anyone tell me a 8GB RAM module that is working with the P07ABW version ? I don't want to buy blindly without confirming first. Downgrading the firmware seems to be quite complicated so i try to avoid that for now.
Thanks in advance. -

We've never fully understood the bug that Samsung introduced in the BIOS that made it very fussy about the RAM.
This recent post for the Series 7 (which was also afflected by the bug) mentions a module that works.
John -
Thanks for the hint, John.
Actually i asked the Samsung sales rep. when i bought my notebook if it has two RAM slots. He said it has two slots and one fan so for me it was clear there is no soldered memory at all.... after i opened it i was a little bit shocked (but at least it has two fans). But i can't blame that person, i do not expect that sales rep. will know how it looks inside every revision of the hardware they sale.
The user in the other thread bought the same module that was not working in his case but with different memory chips. Maybe it has something to do with the size of the chips or the memory timings. I will stick with the 4GB for now and wait what the Samsung support will tell me, probably that i have to use what they built in but who knows ?! -
However, I think is still safe to assume that Samsung can't cram two removable ram slot together with a GPU chipset in this notebook model.
I apologize for the incorrect information. -

That looks like loose or stripped fixing screws for the hinges, probably the screws in the display.

Hello again.
Recently i was trying to install Linux next to my Windows and unfortunatelly this process deleted all my files including Windows 8 and recovery partition. Is there any way to Get this recovery partition from some source, or i can Just install Windows 8 and install some software from samsung page which will install all these notebook apps? -
But this will only re-create the SRS software and F4 boot, not your factory image containing Windows. You can clean install Windows after you have SRS working, then create a backup of the new installation. Only you can decide if it is worth the effort. -
-
Did that CD also install Samsung Recovery Solution, or just Windows? Are you able to boot Recovery with F4?
I ask because Samsung Recovery Media are normally just plan Windows OEM discs. -

Check you have the right language keyboard in Control Panel > Region and Language. I don't think there is an easy way for the user to mess this up but Windows can get confused for innumerable reasons.

Hi all,
I've had my Samsung 740u for about 1,5 years, and now I've started to notice the main fan speed up if I plug in my power plug even if idle. The noise is very irritating, it rumbles a bit and doesn't sounds too good. Without the power plug in, it never speeds up, stays quiets but also drops in performance without the extra watts. I still have my warranty, and I want the store to have a look at it. They want me to describe the problem so their technician can attempt to reproduce the problem, but how? I could go about recording a video of my laptop but I'm not sure if this is the best solution. If the technician doesn't reproduce the error then I'll have to pay for the service.
Also notice that I have settings installed, and have the 'Silent Mode' turned completely off. I'm unsure if this might affect the fan speed ups, but the rumble sounds like a mechanical fault to me. -

Three possible causes are (i) the cooling system is getting clogged with fluff so the fan is becoming less effective; (ii) the thermal paste between the CPU and the heatsink has become less effective; and (iii) there are more background processes running on the computer which are keeping the CPU busier. All of these would be classified as normal wear rather than something to be fixed under warranty. You can check what is using the CPU by looking on the processes tab of Task Manager. The information can be more revealing if you add the CPU Time column using View > Select Columns, use the computer for a few hours and then see the breakdown.
Then run HWiNFO, open the Sensors tab and keep an eye on the CPU speed and temperature while doing your normal computer activities. Then run wPrime while watching the CPU temperature and listening to fan noise. Samsung usually set their fans to start running at around 60C, run faster at about 70C, even faster at 75C and very fast at 80C. You can run wPrime with one, two, three or four threads to represent different levels of CPU load. A clogged cooling system problem is indicated by the amount of hot air being blown out of the air vent being much less than would be expected for the fan noise while a thermal paste problem is indicated by the air temperature being much less than the CPU temperature.
Try to do your own diagnosis first before giving the computer to anyone else and if you report any additional information here we will try to help interpret it.

I also have another question concerning matrix. I have had this laptop for almost 2 years and I really like it. Some time ago I've noticed a dirt on my matrix but I thought it will disappear after cleaning. Unfortunatly yesterday when I was trying to clean it, it was impossible. They are clearly marks from keyboard, but is it possible that keyboard could damage matrix soo much or it is just more resistant dirt (but with what should I clean it without damaging the meatrix more) ?
Here are some photos.

Hi guys, I need your help in fixing my laptop.
I'm trying to find a replacement power jack, but without a success. Anyone know where can I get one?
The original jack is broken so I need a new one.
Thanks -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Our usual resource for finding part numbers is SamsungParts.com. However, it is listing only a very limited selection of parts - I think they are running down the stock of spares. Another source is ebay for parts salvaged from dead computers.
Samsung use only two sizes of power connector that I know of so most likely some other models will have the same part as your notebook. Is the power jack soldered onto a board or on a lead? Then look through the notebookcheck reviews (they usually include a photograph of the inside of the notebook) and see which use the same connector.

Hi all,
I own the NP740u3 model with the discrete AMD graphics card for 3 years now. For the past couple of weeks I have been experiencing a rather strange issue. While on battery power the laptop screen goes black on random and wont turn on. The laptop is working while the screen is off .. I can listen the videos being played, pause them with space bar e.t.c. This only occurs while on battery, when plugged in everything is fine. I have tried almost everything but the problem still persists. I have reinstalled windows 8 with all updates and drivers, i have rolled back the bios to a previous version and even installed win 7 to see if that helps but with no success.
. I also tweaked the power options to never turn the screen off but that did help either.
Does anybody have any idea whats going on ? Could this be a hardware issue ? ( i hope not)
Any help is greatly appreciated. -
I am posting this update because I have managed to sort out my laptop's problem and this may help somebody in the future.
So here is the full story:
A few months ago I replaced the laptop's original battery which had reached 30% wear level with one that I bought from ebay. The battery was described as being a genuine new one and certainly looked like that when it arrived but I was still rather suspicious because it came from China and was priced less than half of what same batteries from Europe or US cost. Anyway I installed it and everything seemed to be alright. When my screen problem happened and after trying everything else I decided to put the old battery back in the laptop (thankfully I had kept it) and see what happens... and guess what....the screen problem was fixed!!!! no more black screens on battery power..!!!
I have no idea why or how a battery can cause this issue but I guess the moral of the story is "you get what you pay for" or don't buy cheap Chinese batteries!!!
Sorry for the long post and cheersLast edited: Sep 1, 2017
