    Hi,

I am a bit floundered by the manual regarding the HDMI port on my Series 9 NP900XPD. Is says I can connect to a TV via HDMI so that port appears to have OUT connectivity. But can I also connect via this port to have IN connectivity?

(I want to digitize old VHS tapes from the VCR but need to buy a cable to test the port. Would prefer not having to buy a cable if there is no IN connectivity in the port to be tested.)

Unfortunately the HDMI port is only for output.

I don't think I know of any of laptops that accept input through their HDMI ports. I guess there could be some, but it would be a port marked HDMI-in.

Yes it is an HDMI out only on this machine. I know Alienware used to have an HDMI input on some of their devices a while back with the thought being gamers could use the laptop's display with their consoles. I don't know of any other laptops that have this feature.

For what it's worth, I did this type of project recently and used an external thunderbolt device. It was great experience overall. I just sold the hardware after I finished the project... Almost for what I paid.
