SW Update has just offered me a new version (2.2.0.5) of Settings for my Windows 8 NP900X4C so I thought I would check it out. It seems to be work in progress (there were several reboots during the installation and at one stage I even had a Performance tab with an Expresscache control (however, I haven't seen it again).

    Settings 1.jpg

Pressing Fn+F1 gets me this message

    Settings message.jpg

but also opens the Settings control panel. Does anyone have an idea what that message says?

Clicking the button to close the message box results in the opening of a second Settings control panel which has some differences in what it offers. The differences I see are:

Control panel 1 appears to be the previous control panel with Battery Life Extender and 4 tabs in the Network section. The second control panel does not include the BLE tab but does have a Screen Brightness tab in the Display section. This might be a one stop fix for all the Adaptive Brightness aggravations.

    Settings 3.jpg

The second control panel now has one tab for wireless devices which serves both WiFi and Bluetooth and there is a recording section in the Sound section.

What are others getting with this new Settings version?

I noticed nothing new except what you have noted already.
However my 'Flight Mode' button (Fn-F12) is not doing anything anymore. I am not sure if it's caused by the 2.2.0.5 settings or the BIOS update to P09ABK.

Fn+F12 is still working for me. It takes about 1 second to have an effect (I'm sure that last year it look a lot longer). However, pressing Fn+F11 makes my screen go dimmer (but does switch Silent Mode to auto although there's no message). I've looked a bit deeper and a side-effect of Fn+F11 is to re-enable Adaptive Brightness but another press of Fn+F11 doesn't disable it again!

PS: I turned off adaptive brightness in the Power Saver power plan and now Fn+F11 seems to be working OK.

Thanks for sharing this, John. SW Update has offered me 2.2.0.5 for several weeks, I just never got around to testing it

My NP700Z3A has had the Adaptive Brightness tab since version 2.0.0.49. It's one of the standard places I always refer to for disabling Adaptive Brightness. BUT, it doesn't have that bottom Fn-keys setting that you are showing.

I am currently on Settings 2.1.0.20 (as described in the Settings tread). That one also has separate Wireless tabs for BT and WiFi as well as that (odd) Recording tab.

I does indeed seem like 2.2.0.5 is more about 8.1 compatibility, possibly some drastic internal updates to work around the reasons that caused Settings to be broken in the first place. And I agree, maintaining a common package for all models must be a daunting task.

I'll have to try 2.2.0.5 one of these days and see if it brings my BLE and ExpressCache tabs back, which were lost when I installed 2.1.

Use SW Update's Find Model option to look under Win 8.1 for the NP940X3G.
