    Hello all,
I recently acquired (through means of accidental coverage) a brand new NP880Z5E-X01UB from best buy, and so far I like the looks and feel of it but it seems to be having issues. Randomly the pc gets to where it can barely open and close windows. With such good specs I would expect that routine procedures like opening file explorer would happen almost instantaneously but in some cases it can take almost up to 30 seconds for anything to appear. It doesn't perform this way all of the time, but when it does I have to perform a restart to get it back in proper working order. I mostly notice the issue arising when I wake the computer out of sleep mode or when inserting a flash drive. I do seem to be having the high Csrss cpu usage when this issue arises and im pretty sure that it is indeed the culprit, but i am un aware of a way to fix it. I have noticed a few times that almost all of the 8GB of ram that is installed on this pc is being used by some phantom process that doesn't appear in the task manager when this is happening as well. I am seriously considering returning this laptop and getting a different one if these issues cannot be solved in a timely manner, but I love everything else about the laptop and would really hate to do that.

Thanks in advance for your responses

Ps, to save time here is the general low down on the equipment
    Intel Core i7-3635QM
    8GB Ram DDR3
    AMD Radeon HD 8770M graphics
    Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6235 wireless LAN (802.11a/b/g/n)
1TB Serial ATA II hard drive (5400 rpm)
    15.6" LED high-definition widescreen 10-finger-sensing touch screen
    Running Windows 8

If IntelliMemory is installed then uninstall it.

Process Explorer might help you track down the culprit. This type of behaviour is unusual.

Have you used Samsung's SW Update to make sure you have the latest drivers and software?

I don't see intellimemory in add/remove programs, I disabled it. Could it still be causing problems even though its disabled? I am also not sure if the phantom memory use and the lag are directly associated with each other since the memory issue doesn't occur every time the lag does.

And yes, I have been running SW Update every day, twice a day, since I purchased the computer

Thanks. Get Process Explorer from here and see if it will tell you what is using csrss.

I suggest you uninstall all the Samsung software and any other supplied bloatware except for Settings and SW Update. You can reinstall later using SW Update of you really need them. You could also temporarily rename csrss.exe, which should it running, and see what program complains or malfunctions.

Good point: The info here suggests it is essential so strikeout my suggestion to rename it.

I wonder if your problem is due to excessive disk I/O activity. It shouldn't be this problem but might be related to this.

I would make a second attempt at removing IntelliMemory which can cause the type of problem you are seeing by increasing disk I/O when it's meant to be reducing it. Try reinstalling it, rebooting, uninstalling and rebooting again.

I suggest you first reinstall it again using SW Update, reboot then uninstall (and reboot again).

This one keeps coming up in the Ativ Book 8 Owners Lounge. At present the fix seems to be to enable USB Wake-up in BIOS, although it's more of a workaround.

If you search that thread, you will find many discussions about it, including in the last 1-2 weeks.

Two csrss process open.PNG I attached a picture of Process Explorer, you can see that i seem to have two instances of Csrss.exe running....is that normal? It only has one open when the computer doesn't have poo-brain, but right now it is showing all the signs of indeed having poo-brain and there are now two of them active, I can't see this being a coincidence.

It is not unusual to have more than one instance of that program running (I have two at this moment but neither is using much CPU time).

Did you investigate Dannemand's suggestion about the USB Wake-up setting in the BIOS?

I found one post that stated "
Make sure the USB 3.0 suspend option in BIOS is ENABLED. I'm facing the exact same issue, but I had the USB 3.0 suspend option DISABLED, ENABLING the option solves the issue" I will check on that right meow. Standby

I just checked bios and there is no "USB 3.0 Suspend option" in bios. There was a Wake from USB U3 that I enabled but no luck with the Suspend option. I also have uninstalled Intellimemory, fingers crossed.

I was rushed heading out for a meeting when I posted yesterday. I apologize it was such a terse post.

There has indeed been a lot of discussion about excessive CSRSS CPU usage in the Owners Lounge (including today). If you start reading at this post you will see. It includes the advice from Shinji_U to enable USB 3.0 Suspend in BIOS, which he elaborates in this post; and later in this post he also recommends enabling USB wake-up for the same issue.

None of these are real solutions, more like workarounds to a software flaw, either in Win8's USB3 drivers or further down the driver tree.

Of course your problem could be something else entirely, since CSRSS handles a lot of different tasks. I am merely passing on information from other members since I don't have this model myself

In any case would I recommend you follow the discussion in that Owners Lounge and post questions there. That thread is packed with active users who own this very model -- many of them watch only that thread, and nothing else on the forum.

Edit: Also, this post from damouk just came in as the latest in that discussion in the Owners Lounge. I think the original advice of enabling USB S3 Wake-up in BIOS is the correct setting to looks for, and that it was just a slip of memory when Shinji_U referred to USB Suspend. Sounds like the same thing anyway.

I had the same issue with the same laptop and I could fix it by:
1- disable "IntelliMemory" service. (press windows key+r to get run utility. Then type msconifg , Services tab. and disable the service then restart)
2- I uninstalled Symantec internet security as it was utilizing the resources badly.

Finally I got my memory freed. Now the normal utilization is 1.5 GB RAM.
