Hi
I have a Samsung Series 7 Ultra Notebook (NP740U3E-S04UK) with SSD upgraded to 512GB mSATA by Samsung.
A) Is it safe to upgrade to Windows 10 yet?
B) The "free to upgrade" message says that it will expire "at some point" - should I be worried?
Thanks
J

Specific issues regarding Windows 10 on Samsung notebooks are largely fixed, so the question is whether Windows 10 is worth upgrading to? For guidance you may wish to look at some of the threads in the Windows forum.
I'm running Windows 10 on my main computer (Dell E7450) and one thing I have noticed is the number of updates and patches - several times per week - and often requiring restarts. Whether this frequency of updates will diminish remains to be seen but it runs counter to my normal method of working where I reboot the computer every few weeks.
According to this, you have until 28th July 2016 to get the free upgrade.

I had installed on the day It came out. Was using till last week. Now back to Win 8.1
The UI looks ugly (personal feeling) although that is the route MS is taking
For normal usage I didn't see any huge difference for me between 8.1 & 10
Had some troubles with Wifi drivers and this started after I had the TH2 release. Tried multiple options to restore Wifi drop no chance.hmscott likes this. -
After writing this post, I decided to install SW update and try downloading (again) the Windows 8.1 driver. To my amazement I found out that Samsung has released Windows 10 drivers for NP530U4C-S01IN
This laptop is from 2012 and came with Windows 7
Going to download Win 10 drivers and try 10 again -
Anyone else tried??

Quick question:
I have been using Window 8.1 on both my laptop and my PC for a while now (maybe 1.5 years) and I have maybe 20 - 25 applications installed. Is it recommended to upgrade taking my applications with me, or is it much better to format the disk and start again?
(Fwiw, both PCs are running on SSDs not HDs) -
There is still 6 months before the free license period is up, and I would use all of it to make sure MS has fixed as much as possible before risking a move from a stable Windows 8.1 configuration to Windows 10.
If you have a well configured Windows 8.1 system, and everything is stable and happy, why risk the move to Windows 10? There is nothing of value there to induce a move.
At the very least, get a program like Macrium Reflect Free and do an image copy of your Windows 8.1 boot drive so you can restore back to it if you have Windows 10 troubles.
You can create a 4GB-16GB USB 3.0 Macrium Reflect Free boot drive, and keep your backup image(s) on an external USB drive for recovery.
Then you are safe and can try a Windows 10 in place upgrade, or a from scratch Windows 10 install.

It seems others in this thread haven't had any luck recently, so the best move would be to wait a few more months.
If you haven't been watching the Windows 10 threads besides this one, here are a couple to catch up on:
