    Hello there,

I posted about a month ago, about problems with by DVD drive, well it all seemed ok, and now its playing up again. Can anyone help me or advise me.

It keeps burning coasters and its taking on average about 1Hour 20mins to burn 4gigs worth of data. It also completely slows my system down whilst burning. I cant even play music though winamp, or watch a avi through realplayer.

Should i be worried about this, or is it just normal. My girlfriends laptop which is an old centrino machine seems to be able to play music and burn dvds at the same time. Could the problem be Nero.

When i try and use windows explorer, (which I know is pretty crap) it wont let me copy anything to the temp D drive.

Should i be ringing Samsung and giving them some **** down the phone, or just grin and bear it.

    Advice please, all greatfully received.

    Many thanks

    Jamie

I presume that you have tried several different media types (DVD+R, DVD-R, CDR). If so, then I would recommend you contact Samsung support and explain that you have tried all available options at your disposal.

The Teac burner in my X60 has performed very well. I have even burnt a dual layer disc. However, one of my friends recently bought an X60 and his burner was not a Teac but another brand. I don't think he has burnt many discs yet, but he hasn't reported any problems.

Let us know how you get on with Samsung support.

    A quick update

I just burnt some flicks to DVD and it all worked well (if very slowly). I then tried to play them in my Philips stand-alone player and films were playing jerky with sound from the others playing over the top. Very strange!!

    I think I may have a problem.

Even just putting a cd-r in causes windows to stutter and winamp to crash.screen blank and all that. I think my dvd drive may be on the blink.

    Cheers

Make sure your DVD burner is in DMA mode (as opposed to PIO mode) in the device manager.

i don't think the DVD drive on this laptop is anything special..

the number of coasters i have made burning various .iso images is just ridiculous.. in the end i just gave up and now burn everything at 1x and they seem to work fine :/
