Strange TouchPad Issue? [2019 Notebook Pen]

So I've had my new 13" Notebook Pen (NP930SBE) for a couple weeks now and I really like it!... except for one very strange issue:

Basically, when I start the computer up from any state (off/sleep/hibernate), the touchpad is "sluggish" for a minute or two. The mouse cursor interpolates a bit slowly behind my finger movements for a little while, but then the issue just goes away and the touchpad becomes super responsive (as you would expect it to operate).

Has anyone experience a similar thing on a Samsung laptop? Mine was like this brand new out of the box and nothing I've tried (updating BIOS/drivers, tweaking power settings, etc.) has alleviated the issue.

 

Update: this only occurs after Sleep mode. It does not occur when booting from the Off or Hibernate states.

 

I'm glad you posted that update, because now I recognize the symptoms.

I've often had the issue with my older NP700Z3A that its Elan touchpad driver doesn't wake up properly after sleep. The test is that my touchpad configurations aren't active: Two-finger touch doesn't invoke a right-click, pointer speed is different, etc. It's basically just running in good old PS2 mouse mode, i.e. as if the Elan driver was never installed.

Usually putting it back to sleep, then waking it up again will fix it. Or logging out as user and back in.

Also make sure you Restart Windows from time to time: With Windows Fast Startup now the standard (nothing to do with Samsung Fast Start or anything similarly named) the machine state is always just hibernated on Shutdown, never restarted -- unless you manually Restart Windows.

 

The issue fixes itself after being awake for about a minute. Booting from Off or Restart or Hibernate never triggers the issue. Booting from Sleep triggers it 100% of the time.

Until I figure out the cause, I have "closing the lid" set to Hibernate. I'll try your manual restart suggestion.
