Hi I have a Q210 laptop which over night has developed an odd fault. It refuses to run from the battery. The charging light on the front is cycling slowly red and green. In windows the battery is showing 94% remaining but not charging. I don't want to buy a new battery only to find that the fault lies in the laptop itself.

I've search high and low to try to find out what has happened but blank. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the forums!

Just to elaborate, do you mean that it won't charge or that the battery doesn't actually power the laptop when unplugged? (does it just shut off)

In either case, you can try taking the battery out, unplugging the laptop, holding down the power button for 10-30 seconds and then plugging the battery/charger back in.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks Crozone for the reply. It won't run on the battery and has to be kept plugged in otherwise it just stops dead. I have been keeping a eye on the state of the battery over the last few days, and it does appear to be slowly losing charge.

Once I get home I'll try removing the battery and then holding down the power button for 30 seconds. Is it worth trying holding the button down and then plugging in either the battery or the power before releasing it? As I can't locate a freely available copy of the service manual any tricks or tips are be appreciated.

I've now tried unplugging it, removing the battery, and then holding down the power button. Problem persists. Interestingly the power lights on the battery don't light up but three of them flash three times then go out.

I think I might be better questioning Samsung directly.

The Q210 is now around 3 years old so most likely your battery is looking forward to retirement.

The battery is showing 94% remaining in windows. However when you press the power meter button on it instead of the lights staying lit and indicating the remain charge three of them flash. Why do they do that, is it that the battery is dead?

I would consider the flashing indicator lights to be an indication of a battery problem (confirmed by the battery not working, or vice-versa). Have you tried searching the Samsung support site?

The battery lights and the fact that the battery is show as 94% remaining kind of confuses the whole argument that the battery is dead.

Do you have an address for the Samsung support site.

    Samsung UK support is here.

I can't see an FAQ with an explanation of the lights but if you go to the bottom of any FAQ then there's a link to send an email to support. It has worked for me in the past.
