    Hi everyone

I just bought a replacement hard drive for my X60, its a WD Scorpio 250Gb 5400 RPM. Has anyone got any pointers or tips on how to swap them over. I haven't tried yet as I've been too busy, but last night i opened up the cover and it looks more complicated than i had first thought.

Anyone got any suggestions, they would all be gratefully received.

    thanks in advance,

    Jamie

    It's actual1y quite easy.

    1. Remove the cover (you have obviously got this far)

    2. Remove the two screws marked A on the attached photo

    3. Carefully lift out the free end of the HDD at point C (you can put a small screwdriver into one of the screw holes on the side and then lever). The end with the connector will rotate but stay fixed.

    4. With a flat-bladed screwdriver lever off the SATA connector. Do a little bit at each side (points B on photo) alternately until you can life the drive out of the connector.

    5. To replace, it is easiest to put the socket of the connecting cable facing up but resting on the bottom of the bay. Then firmly push the connector on the HDD into the socket. Then lay the HDD label side down in the bay, refix the two screws A and replace the cover.

    OK?

I'm glad to hear that the upgrade went OK. This is what the forums are for.

The WD2500BEVS is a good performer. It's what I'm now using. I originally got the Samsung HM250JI which had a compatibility problem resulting in slow transfer rates over the first 50GB. Samsung support tried to blame it on the notebook saying it wasn't designed for 250GB and wouldn't acknowledge that the HDD had a firmware bug. So I got the WD HDD instead and proved that there was nothing wrong with the notebook. The HM250JI got RMA'd.

Samsung's failure to quickly acknowledge the problem has cost it some serious money because the HM250JI is now selling at a discount although I think the Samsung HDD is as least as fast as the WD and slightly cooler. Samsung have issued a patch but should have been more open about the problem.

I also got the WD2500BEVS. Let´s see how it performs in the X65 with Vista. Also heard that some Samsung HDD´s aren´t doing well, even in a Samsung laptop...

I'm trying to swap the drives on my X60 Tablet. All of Lenovo's instructions on doing this have been removed from their site. Are the instructions previously posted here the same as for a tablet? Any pointers are appreciated. Thanks.

This thread relates to the Samsung X60. I suggest you post your question in the Lenovo forum.

    Hi all,

I just tried to swap the hard disc in my x60 for a larger Seagate Drive. The physical swap it's self went fine, but now the laptop won't boot at all. So I put the original drive back in, and it still won't boot. I don't even have any power lights on the front of the laptop.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
