do you have to set NVIDIA to override the intel to accomplish this: "First thing, you should use the Nvidia settings instead of the preset ones. I"
-
right click on your desktop and select nvidia control panel.Choose manage 3D settings and select the Nvidia processor instead if u want, by default it should be the auto-select which is great if you use it on the go. In the video settings, choose Nvidia settings instead of video player settings.
I did only the bold part and I saw some difference. Auto-select works good enough.
Also, you could make sure that he always uses Nvidia GPU for movies you watch with windows media player for example and leave the auto-select feature on.
As for the other dude who asked for the WLAN drivers, you answered yourself lol -
thanks

Hey guys after playing around with some other computers I noticed my screen is more blue than others. I adjusted my colors through the Intel inegrated video card settings and it seemed to fix it, but still some colors seem off. It's just too hard to adjust to be accurate to say a Macbook.
I'm sure the Macbook should have a more vibrant/truer screen but some of these colors are way off. Is there something wrong with my driver?? -
for me the red isn't as red and i tried to customize so many times and can't seem to figure what is the best. also I used the nvidia settings to change the settings
-
*sigh* everything was perfect until this. Maybe we should e-mail Samsung to make them aware of this. I'm wondering if it's the Intel Internal GPU or Nvidia GPU that caused this. Maybe one of the latest drivers or latest firmware?

Hello all -- I am a new member to the forum., and a pure novice when it comes to technical issues about configuring and setting up computers.
I am looking for specific recommendations concerning what to do when resizing the partitioned hard drives on the QX10 during initial setup. Should one make the C Drive substantially larger, say 500 gb, and the D drive around 100 gb? I am pretty confused about what to do and don't want to make a fatal mistake, as I don't possess all of the technical skills that most of the posters on this forum possess. I also don't want to do anything that would cause my system to lose needed drivers or create other problems because I did something wrong.
Thanks in advance for any technical advice or recommendations.
I really like what I look at the display model as Best Buy when I look at the computer, but don't want to bring one home from the store and discover lots of problems I don't know how to correct.
Thanks! -
to me it all depends on how u use your laptop, i have a lot of media (pics, movies, music) so I made the D drive larger to hold those while leaving the C drive for program installations and documents and such...so thats how i divide the two
-
Thanks Dahray02
I principally use my computer for work (MS Word docs, excel, powerpoint), but I also do store pics on it, and plan to load Itunes and music on this machine.
From the Samsung support site, it appears they suggest sizing the C and D drive so they are roughly the same.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks! -
Here's a new review by Engadget posted today
Samsung QX410 review -- Engadget -
I spoke with Best Buy today, and the Geek Squad guy said that when they set up the QX-410, they resize it so that the C partition uses up about 90% of the available space on the drive, and the D roughly 10%.
Would you advise against this partition allocation, or does this setup create any problems?
Thanks! -
to further explain my decision, i put about 100 more gigs in my D drive than my C...it makes it easier for me to have my D bigger for my media because i have network shares with other devices in my house...so i basically just share the D drive to my media players and ps3, etc...instead of having to pick which folder to share and which to not, its simple for me, media = D, everything else = C, media takes up more space so make D bigger....that was my logic

The C drive gets wiped if you ever use the Samsung Recover Solution so my preference is to keep it quite small (Windows + programs) and put all the user files on D: Also, if you use SRS to make user backups then it stores images of C: on the D drive.

Thanks John, I appreciate the recommendation.

Guys, laptop looks good, but how about that wide black line under the screen? The real showstopper for me is the lack of blu-ray, but hopefully there will be another revision with one sometime soon.
-
Everything is good beside the screen
It rips me off, gonna return this laptop
The most horrible screen I have ever seen, the color wash out,too much white, low contrast, etc
If u only use it for web browsing, or doc editing, its ok.
But if u gonna use it edit your photo or video ,this will be a trap -
I adjusted the colors on mine and its a lot better. I'm more than happy with mine. Put an SSD in it and its blazing.
Reviews I've read were great on it too!
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
On Windows 7: Start > Run > Calibrate gets you in to a display calibration option utility which can provide some useful improvements.
John -
I adjusted the colors also and it comes out really good now.
BTW what kind of SSD did you get and where and how do you install it? Do you have any links to install the ssd? I can show it to my friend thats 'computer savvy' to install it for me.
-
Even I thought so that the screen is horrible when I first bought the laptop. The white is too white and has a very annoying glare. But change the settings to use NVIDIA settings from NVIDIA control panel and you will see the difference. The white is toned down and color looks much nicer. I ended up keeping it.
The laptop is good for what it costs and has enough punch in it. Of course you can not compare it with some high speed rigs with quad core processor and high end graphic card, but compare it with any mid range mainstream laptop and it wins in every single aspect. If samsung can put a good high resolution screen (It does not mean in any way that current screen is not usable) it can give even MAC BOOK run for its money .
I slipped in an SSD and it rocks!!!!!!!!! -
I got a 160GB Intel X-25 (G2) off Ebay and the installation was simple. I literally took out the old one and put the new one in. Took about 5-10 min.
It boots/shuts down so quickly! Apps load up instantly too.

I just found your site after searching for "problems with QX410". I am an absolute "anti"-computer nerd. I just basically know how to turn them on and off. I did research though and this looked great for the money. I got it set up OK but when I wanted to see what the video worked like, I tried a few different sites like You Tube and CNN news video (I have wifi) and the videos keep stopping and starting with the wheel going round in the centre. Radio site with just audio is fine. When I phoned Samsung the guy told me that someone else had this problem a few days ago and he sent the information to a "higher up" but he hasn't heard anything back yet. He said he will call me when he has an answer - maybe in about a week. This seems really odd to me - does anyone know a solution to this or heard anything about it? Any advice gratefully received. Tx.
-
URBANGLOWCAM: How in the world did you adjust your colors? I've tried but have not been able to find the "perfect" settings". It's pretty frustrating. Can you give some insight? Perhaps what "Levels/Numbers" the settings you have? Anything would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!!
-
i second this question...i've been playing around in the nvidia and the intel settings...please advise
-
Sure no problem guys. First.....I'm curious. Do you all have the latest, separate video drivers installed?
- VGA(Graphics), INTEL (Driver) (ver.8.15.10.2202)
-VGA(Graphics), NVIDIA (Driver) (ver.8.17.12.5941)
The reason I ask is because I feel like I noticed the strange colors after updating them a few weeks ago. I don't think I had the blue hue when I first received the laptop. What's wrong with the colors on all of yours too? Too blue? Too red? etc.
As far as how I fixed it...I went into the control panel and clicked Intel(R) Graphics and Media. Under Display go to Color Enhancement. Keep in mind that you can individually adjust RGB colors if you want too. I had to do that to get my desired settings. There is a lot of tinkering you might have to do. It took me awhile and I tried comparing my screen to other laptops that were calibrated already. You can do this by comparing the same website site by site.
The only thing you'll notice after setting it up is whenever you bring your laptop up from sleep or a shut down it'll flicker from the original color state to your new one first. I hope future Nvidia/Intel video drivers will fix the colors. Maybe we should e-mail Samsung/Nvidia. I don't know which card is causing the discoloration. I hope I helped. -
I had been using the same method you have but to no avail. I suppose I'll just keep at it. I'm hoping some type of update comes out that fixes it because that's really my only gripe with this notebook; other than that it's great.
-
It really is a great laptop. Yeah my only gripes are THAT and that I get some playback menu flickering in full screen with Youtube videos. I have the same issue with Vimeo...prolly the same with any Flash based video streaming. Anyone else get that?
These all sound like video card driver issues. They seem fixable. I'll definitely e-mail Samsung about it to make them more aware. Hopefully they'll look into it but I'm only one person so..... dunno how that works.
Edit: I made them aware of it through Samsung's live chat. Please you guys do the same. They notated the issues. If you report it, it might make them more aware of it for future updates. Just go to http://www.samsung.com/us/support/# and click LIVE CHAT SUPPORT. It takes only a few minutes. Or if you feel like calling that works too. Thank you.
-
I'll live chat tonight and discuss these issues with them. They REALLY need to fix this ASAP because this is almost inexusable for a laptop that people are callling a MacBook Pro replacement/alternative. Of all things, you REALLY need to make the screen look fantastic, otherwise people won't care.
Urbanglowcam: Any chance you could snap some pics or screen shots of your display settings so I could try them out?? It would be MUCH appreciated.
Cheers! -
Thanks! I just hope it makes them more aware of it. I compared my QX410 to my friends new Macbook Pro and it definitely outperformed it in pretty much every way. Take note that I have a SSD put in and his is the 13" model with just an Intel dual core.
The only thing I noticed better was his display, as it was more vibrant.
Here's a shot I took of my display settings. Hopefully this makes the colors more impressive to you until the display drivers can be fixed.
-
The flickering is due to hardware acceleration in FLASH 10.1 beta release. If you disable it from the FLASH settings it will work fine.
NVIDIA has released the new driver to support FLASH 10.1 features but it wont work until Samsung provides it own official version of the new driver.
Hope samsung releases the updated driver quickly, till then just disable hardware acceleration from FLASH Video settings. -
is it possible to install a 1.8" ssd intel x18-m on this laptop or no?
-
Cheers, trying it out tonight!!!
-
Ahh I see. I was thinking that but didn't know for sure. Thanks for clearing it up. But it still has to do with the latest nvidia drivers for Samsung not supporting it. I hear they have a 10.2 beta too so that might even be coming soon. I hope Samsung keeps with the times.
I wish we could update directly from Nvidia, but since we have the dual GPU system, it's not possible. You guys think that'll change? -
Hope it works! Lemme know.

does anyone know the difference between the qx410 and the q430? thankkss

okayy thanks
and also, i've been debating getting this laptop or the asus u36 with the i5, or an acer timelinex 4280tg, can anyone help me decide between the three? -
I am not too sure about u36 as it is very new and not yet available here in US. But I will definitely choose qx410 over 4820tg. Its build quality is way better and screen has edge to edge glass. The keyboard and touchpad are delight to use. Of course 4820tg has a better graphic card. So if you want to play some casual games or do some stuff which requires graphics processing then you may want to consider 4820tg. But in other areas qx410 beats acer hands down.

I am amused why they didn't mention HDMI port in QX410 specs. I am using one which I bought from Best Buy and It does have HDMI port
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+Laptop+/+Intel%26%23174;+Core%26%23153;+i5+Processor+/+14%22+Display+/+4GB+Memory+/+640GB+Hard+Drive+-+Aluminum/1255544.p?id=1218243229782&skuId=1255544&st=qx410&cp=1&lp=1 -

Thanks for that clarification. The HDMI port is mentioned in the QX410 spec sheet but is not mentioned on Samsung's QX410 web page.
John -
Well, I put your settings in and while they're better, I still feel like it's lacking. I'll work with it some more but thanks again for the help!
-
heyy i just got this laptop, man its fast HAHA, anyways, i was wondering which backup option is the one that has windows 7 and all those essential samsung drivers in it? i dont want the one which backs up my personal data, just the essential stuff.... thanks
-
To all qx410 owners -
1. What's the fan noise like on this machine with the stock 5400 rpm hdd?
2. What is the heat situation like on this machine? What areas heat up the most?
3. Will adding a 7200 rpm drive bring significant advantages over the stock 5400 rpm disk? Does a faster hdd add to the overall heat generated by the system?
None of you have complained about the lack of Bluetooth on this machine which I feel was a very stupid thing to do by samsung. -
Ahh sorry. I see some room for improvement on mine too but hopefully it will be addressed in future driver updates.
-
I dunno about a faster HDD but I put a SSD in and it's almost impossible to hear ANY noise from the laptop. I rarely feel heat from the laptop too. Maybe someone that plays games will be able to answer that.
You sure there is no bluetooth on it? There was a bluetooth driver and it was removed on the official Samsung support site. But then it was added as a Win XP driver which is strange because it's a Win 7 laptop. Maybe it doesn't have it.... -
So I got this laptop yesterday. Put in a brand new SSD and this thing is blazing. Installed all of the drivers that I could think of. I was trying to see if I installed the dual GPU right... I do see two different devices (Intel + 310M) under devices manager but how do I know if Nvidia Optimus is working? Right now my laptop is operating under Intel as I only see the Intel GPU icon downright in the bottom corner. How do I switch to the 310m gpu? Is there any indication that I'm using the 310m?

I don't have first hand experience of this hardware but, from looking at page 56 of the User Guide, it appears that you need to register the programs which you want to use the Nvidia GPU.

Hi, i have a question, suddenly my computer started to slow down. in only a day since i bought it, i want to create a dvd to make it indentical to how i got it when i first started the computer, which option in the recovery program do i use? thanks in advance
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Run the Samsung Recovery Solution and select the complete backup option (see page 98 of the User Guide).
John -
I have played with this laptop at Best Buy and I like a lot of its features. The chiclet keyboard in particular feels quite nice and comfortable to type on.
There are a few improvements I would like to see though:
1) Higher resolution and brighter screen--preferably matte.
2) At least one USB 3.0 port.
3) Faster graphics processor.
Do you guys think Samsung will announce the successor to the QX410 at the upcoming CES?
