Hello:
I'm thinking of getting the above-mentioned laptop and had two questions for those of you who know more about it than I. I do a lot of battery powered usage and I know a lot of laptops throttle their CPU when on battery, does this one do that also? Also, is there an extended life battery available for it? I've been looking but have not found one that's definitely compatible so far as I can tell.

I've always found it useful to have the CPU throttle when running on battery to keep it running in the operating range which gives best work done per watt-hour used. It is, however, possible to tweak the Windows power settings to get the CPU to run faster than the minimum speed (but possibly not into the turbo mode) when running on battery.
The battery in the NP700Z5C is internal and not, officially, user replaceable. It is rated at 80 Whr which is at the larger end of the notebook battery range. There is no option for a larger battery so the only way you can add to the capacity is by using some form of external battery which connects to the power socket. However, these are rare, bulky and inefficient.
You may want to look at the newer Z5E models which include a 90Whr battery.

Just to elaborate on John's response: Samsung installs a Windows power profile which defaults to 50% max processor state while running on battery. But it is very easy to change to whatever you like. I personally keep it at 99%, which allows my CPU to scale up to its normal max speed of 2.5GHz, but prevents TurboBoost from kicking in (3.1GHz on mine). 60-80% would be reasonable max settings to accomplish what John described of hitting a battery efficient range.
