    Hello there

If you put Samsung X60 in froogle and then arrange price from high to low then you will get a page and a half of links to shopping sites. For some reason kelkoo and pricerunner are not listing them yet.

Believe it or not the highest price froogle has listed is £10,000. Which even for those specs may be a little out of my pricerange.

It looks like the best price will be around the £1500 mark which isnt too bad i suppose.

Do you think its worth it. The only other option i can see with the high res screen and dual core is the Acer 8204 range, but they weigh as much as a bus, and apparantly kick out enough heat to heat a large room.

Wait a freakin second i just checked one of links and it now says release date
is going to be the 5th October 2006. What the hell is going on. I've already been waiting a year.

    http://www.zomp.net/shop/product_info.php?ctr=froogle&products_id=274463

I cant wait any longer, any advice would be greatfully appreciated.

    i found it here
    http://www.zebracomputers.co.uk/item.do?item=13234

Due May 11th which is the real date it will be released.

thanks for the specs and the link.

The Acer 8204 seems to have a price tag of 1000$ Pounds, making the the Samsung X60 HWMNT2500 roughly 500-700 Pounds more expensive.

Samsung is known to be really expensive anyways... so this is a good price 1400-1700 Poundsfor samsung.

I do suggest you can wait for the ASUS V1J...it is said to be released some time in the summer for the european countries, and for North America it will be here for school time, august/sept.

I will do some more research regarding the X60 in general.

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

nice one mystic let us know what you come up with

Whats going on with that Zebra computers link, the layout looks strangely similar to the Ebuyer site.

That company what said october this morning is now shoowing an unknown date. I suppose thats something at least.

What do you think of the review of the lower specced X60. It comes across quite favourably.

yeah I just reread it right now, it is very nice.

A few things i don't like, is no DVI, i know you can get a docking station.. who wants that added cost just for a DVI port.

THe screen is still questionable in terms of quality. as we read, the screen needed a minor tweak to make it look good..but still on such a laptop they could possibly use a better screen. (Samsung makes screens for almost all brands).

the keyboard looks ok....but there those wierd key beside the arrow keys.

The Batterylife is not great, it won't hit 4 hours with wifi on....it barely hits 3 hours, it would require some tweaking with the screen and possibly some undervolting, and underclocking of the gpu and low speed setting for the cpu to even achieve 3.5 hours with wifi on and BT off.

    But who knows.

Plus the X1600.. wow the batterylife is prolly not even gonna hit 3 hours... you see where i might be going with this..

Im not sure about you, but i need as close as possible to 4 hours for schooling...idealy i want a gaming lappy that last 7 hours.. but that won't be out for another 2-3 years lol.

Also the X60 PSU (brick) is huge! 1.4lbs!

But overall the notebook is amazing.. i've been waiting on purchasing a notebook for over 8 months now... im gonna wait a few more months for the V1J and compare it to the SAmsung X60 HWMT2500 and see which one is cheaper and offers better features and everything.

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

    1. There's another source at http://uk.insight.com/apps/productp...h=C=102&S=1015&M=SA&P=&search_type=&K=&SB=phl. However, the price premium over the next model down is excessive.

    2. After a couple of weeks use, I stand by the comments in my review about battery life (just over 3 hours under light use and a dim backlight); big PSU and display quality (not as good as on Asus W3A). I would hope that the WSXGA+ display would be top class although the specification sheet at http://www.samsungpc.com/gb/support/x60/specs/x60spec.pdf shows that the WSXGA+ display is not as bright as the WXGA+ display.

Do you have any more details on the asus V1J, such as specs, release date and things like that.

Do you think it would be seriously unwise to go for the X60. I need a laptop with those specs as soon as possible. All this waiting is killing me.

    Cheers

You can try reading the specs of the Asus V1J at http://www.notebookreview.com/assets/10078.jpg .

The X60 is not a bad notebook, but like everything, it could be better. If you can settle for the lowest spec with the Intel graphics then the price is good.

Here read this, starts at page 11, and go to the end, you'll find all the info you need right there regarding the V1J. Also just check out the ASUS forums alot of info is there.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=44287&page=11&highlight=v1j

Also, ok, I know understand you want notebook ASAP, meaning no it will not be a bad idea to get the Samsung X60, which will be relased in about 3 weeks.

Infact I do reccommend you buy it, but only if you check it out first, don't buy it blindly, your buying one of the most expensive laptop out there. So make sure that screen is up to par :D

    Thanks,

sorry but i have another question,

i heard a while back about a new LG laptop called the Xnote S1 which had all the same specs as the samsung and was also very light. IS there any more news on this and if so would it be released in the UK.

    Cheers

I dont suggest u get Acer notebooks they have been know for a very long time to b made of very cheap parts etc.........WEll here in aussie ACER brand is successful coz they have huge government contracts but it doesnt mean they r great.

The reason why samsungs are so expensive is because they r made in korea not like toshiba going to even china and various other places to do their parts and assembledge. Which explains unfortunately toshiba recent diminshing quality which back in the good days they were made in Japan.

Notebooks made in Korea and Taiwan are great quality which is why Samsung and even ASUS now days pride themselves on producing great notebooks excepts the price difference between both companies LOL.

An interesting observation. The label on the underside of my Samsung X60 says "Made in China". Does this only apply to the label and not the rest of the computer?

Idealy no, lol. Alot of the parts are made in different countries and then assembled in one country. LOL.

Almost everything we buy says "made in china" or taiwan.... yet several parts come from another country.

    Ohwell w/e

We know Samsung prices are high, i blame NAME BRAND for that... just like Sony..name brand, and you get charged for it, and another example Nike for shoes, name brand and you pay for it.

That's all it is in my eyes, regardless of build quality, (usually better with name brands)

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

    Hi everyone,
Been a silent readers for months here, finally decided to register after reading all your post about X60. I like how it's pretty thin and light, but I'm wondering how is Samsung's screen display like? Why some websites said it's a bit dark and mirror like? How is it compared to Sony, Toshiba, or Fujitsu?

I would agree that WXGA display on my X60 is not as good as I expected, given that Samsung is one of the major display manufacturers. I normally having it running at maximum brightness whereas on my Asus W3A I usually had the brightness stepped down a couple of notches. There is also a little light leakage in the bottom left corner. That said, I am unlikely to change the computer on account of the display quality. You quickly get used to what you have got.
