I'm running Windows 8 on a Samsung Series 7 Chronos. When I boot up the computer, the speaker volume is always set to 42. When I adjust the volume slider, I get a pop-up message reading: "To prevent possible hearing damage, do not listen at high volume levels for long periods." After a while the slider automatically resets itself to 42. It doesn't seem to be in response to anything I'm doing as far as I can tell - it seemingly just happens by itself after a few hours, although it's hard to be certain. The problem occurred on a clean install. I've checked under Sound > Communications and made sure Windows is set to "do nothing" when it detects communications activity, and I've checked the speaker properties and made sure SoundAlive was disabled. I can't find any other likely suspects, and I can't find anyone else with my problem online. It's driving me nutty. Can anyone help?

    Hello SMQ, welcome to NBR.

The closest I can think of that sounds like the issue you describe is this discussion in the 2013 Series 7 / Ativ Book 8 Owners Lounge.

Series 7 Chronos covers dozens of models over the last several years. If you can tell us which model number you have, we can refer you to the Owners Lounge thread for your laptop -- where you have a much better chance of getting an answer from owners of the same model.

My mistake, I should have posted the question there immediately. I'll do that now. The discussion you linked unfortunately wasn't helpful but I appreciate the effort, thank you.

    Hey SMQ!

Did you find a solution? Cause I'm experiencing the same problem. Irritating as hell!!!
I've already asked Realtek about this issue, but still waiting for a reply...
