I have recently purchased a Samsung Series 9 (mid-2012) and feel the need for an external monitor. However the laptop's resolution is 1600 x 900 and most monitors above 20 inch are full HD. Does this mean connecting the Series 9 to an external monitor with a native HD resolution will lead to poor image resulting from scaling down? Has anyone out there been using an external monitor with the Series 9 with good results? Would much appreciate any kind of help, I am not much experienced with these problems.

The micro HDMI port supports up to 1080p (a feature of the standard micro HDMI specification) so you can use full HD but not higher. If you want to use both the internal and external displays at the same time then the latter will need to be an extended display.

External monitors scale much much better than the laptop screens. But you won't have a problem outputing 1080p to a full Hd monitor :)
