    Who makes your display?

I recently discovered that the display of my Samsung X60 is reported as manufactured by Seiko Epson. SiSoftware Sandra reports:

    PnP/DDC Monitor Data
    Manufacturer : Seiko Epson
    Date of Manufacture : 25 December 2004
    Type : RGB colour
    CRT/Panel Size : 15 in
    Horizontal/Vertical CRT/Panel Size : 330 mm / 210 mm
    Gamma Factor : 2.20
    EDID Version : 1.03

Given that Samsung is one of the major LCD manufacturers, it is surprising to see a panel made by someone else in a Samsung notebook. Or perhaps it is isn't. The supplied HDD is from Fujitsu and the optical drive is Teac.

If the manufacture date is being read correctly, then I've got a surprisingly old panel for a computer which was only released this year. One can never be sure about the dates - I've got a Transcend RAM module which is dated 29 January 2013.

What panels do other Samsung notebooks (and other Samsung X60s) have?

I've just dowanloaded thew SIoftware program.

My monitor doesnt even have a name. Under monitor, it just says default monitor 3 times and then generic television, then plug and play monitor.

I'm getting pissed of with my X60, its still burning coasters, SIsoftware doesnt even recognise there is a DVD drive installed. When i try and play DVD's the whole system slows to a snails pace.

    Winamp stutters, firefox shuts down.

Someone please tell me whats wrong. The reason I havent rung samsung yet is that I need to use it for work everyday, and cant really afford to be without it. Do you think they would just do a straight swap for a new one.

I am going to ring them tomorrow and give them ****, but in a nice way or you;d never get anywhere.

    Thanks

    Jamie

ps, my hard drive size is only 86Gig, now i know you loose a fair bit of space, but 16% seems very high.

Sorry to keep posting but i just wanted to ask you another question,

the other day i tried to lift up my X60, i accidently picked it up on the left hand side by the silver bit and it lifted up separatly to the main chassis.

Under further investigation, i realised that at the left hand side the silver bit isnt properly attached to the chassis. I can bend it up to about 3mm.

    Does yours do that.

Should i be worried, i think i will mention it to samsung tomorrow.

    1. The silver upper part of the chassis should be fixed to the black lower part with no gaps. There is a series of screws, mainly around the edge, which you should be able to see if you turn the computer over. I would suspect that one or more screws is missing if you can create a gap.

    2. It definitely appears that you have a problem with the optical drive or its connection. I have found on occasion in the past many years (ie pre-X60) that trying to read a duff optical disc can almost make the computer hang as it seems to grab all the system resources. Whatever your problems are, they may be causing the same result.

    3. The missing hard disk space has been discussed in another thread or two. My conclusion is that the the AVStation Now! partition is so well hidden that it can't be seen by Windows or other disk management utilities. But 100GB is never 100GB of usuable space. 100 x 10^9 /1024 / 1024 / 1024 = 93.13GB.

    Contact Samsung support.

Returning to the original topic of this thread, please also read another thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=78249 . If the information there is correct, Sandra is interpreting the monitor code of SEC as Seiko Epson Corp, but maybe the code means Samsung Electronics Corp.
