    Windows 8 /8.1 uses Samsung's Settings program.

If is not offered for your notebook by SW Update then use the Find Model function to rummage among the notebooks until you find it listed under Windows 8. However, versions newer than 2.0.0.55 do not include support for Battery Life Extender.

You definitely don't want Easy Settings installed on Win8.x -- particularly not the early 1.x versions. Uninstall it first thing and reboot. Then get a recent Settings version as described by John.

    Hi!

Thanks for help, now everything is OK.

Problem was that I did not realize to use updater find model function and started that with win7 compability mode as my model was not listed and it then digged out probably win7 versions.

Ah yes, I can see that happening. I remember others using compatibility mode to overcome the situation when SW Update won't detect the model in Win8.1. But then Compatibility Mode makes it incorrectly detect the Windows version. Thanks for sharing that.

I still don't understand why SW Update fails to detect for some users and not others. When I tested Win8.1 Consumer Preview last summer, I saw the same problem, but later tests with Win8.1 release (and newer versions of SW Update) have detected just fine.

    Hi!

Getting back to this old topic, but do you have any news regarding this SW update detection issue? My laptop is still not detected automatically, but need manually select mode and it is providing links only for Win7 and Win8 drivers..should there be listed also Win8.1 drivers (I am having it)?

If your X3C originally shipped with Windows 7 then Samsung's official support only extends to Windows 8, not to 8.1 (which they consider to be another version of Windows given the number of changes it includes).

Those versions of the X3C that were shipped with Windows 8 should have Windows 8.1 drivers offered. You can find these by using the Find Model option in SW Update. What is the full model number of your X3C?

Regarding that failure of SW Update to detect the model number, I continue to be puzzled by that. As previously noted, I DID see that with the first Win8.1 Consumer Preview, but not with later 8.1 versions and updates. But you are not alone: A few other members have reported the same.

I can theorize of some possible explanations, but it would be pure conjecture

My model is NP900x3c-A01SE and I think it came originally with win7 so it explains.

A newer model such as NP900X3C-A06SE has Windows 8.1 drivers, in case you haven't found them.

I would also note that Samsung changed the BIOS when it introduced the versions shipped with Windows 8. The earlier versions have a BIOS numbered P**AAC while the Windows 8 versions have a BIOS P**ABK. The main change appears to be in the UEFI report for which the differences must have been too much to accommodate in a normal BIOS update.

Thanks, I will use that model to fetch to 8.1 drivers :)
