Issue: Windows 8 in place upgrade fails with generic message :"windows 8 install failed": No Code
Hardware: Samsung NP700G7C-S01US latest firmware Default BIOS settings - Win7 home premium 64 bits - 16 GB ram HD1: Sandisk Extreme 480
HD2 R211 firmware): Hitachi HDD 750 GB
Software: Win 7 Home premium 64 bits - Fully patched - Latest samsung drivers and firmware
Procedure used: Windows 8 download from MS Win 8 upgrade site
Install methods tried:
- Upgrade advisor: Setup startted normally; removed samsung drivers as indicated; ran setup after reboot; installed completed
till PC will restart shortly- Install failed message
- Upgrade from Win8 full DVD - Same results
- No AV or firewall - MS config modified to only load windows drivers - Same results
- Chkdksk /r /f done -- Same results
- Minimal MSCONFIG - - Same results
- Create new user profile - Same results
- Cloned SDD to HDD - Used HDD to do upgrade - Same results
- MS Support tier 2 clueless after 4 hours (India)
- Removed all samsung drivers - Used Revo uninstall - Same results
- Samsung TS cannot help - Refers me to MS
I installed Win 8 on 2 other PCs: NO Issues whatsoever!!!!
I also installed WIn8 on 4 years old Desktop: Smooth sailing
I am not sure what else to do - I do not want to do a clean install - My laptop is configured lots of Adobe software
and pluggins that are licensed quite painfully.
I do not have Samsung recovery partition installed - Did not feel I needed it - System is backup to NAS daily - Paragon Cloning software
used Monthly to external HDD
Any ideas, because I ran out of fresh ones?
Thanks,
Gil Laraque

I wonder whether the ExpressCache is causing confusion. There are some posts about it.

Thanks for your response John...Would you know where the thread on Express cache causing issue is located?

Everyone should read this before they consider installing Windows 8:
Windows 8 — Disappointing Usability for Both Novice & Power Users (Jakob Nielsen's Alertbox)
Fortunately, I only wasted 12 hours on my Z7C with Windows 8. -
This article is a bit misleading... I have a desktop running Win8 with several opened applications on the desktop, and I switch from one to the other just like I did since Windows 95. Win 8 is a fully multithreaded and multitasking OS as it always been. It has a flat look that I do not particularly like, but there is just a bit of a learning curve. After 1 hour anyone should be quite comfy with it. Stay away from Metro UI is you have a regular PC/laptop because it is not meant to use on a PC, I will probably never use Metro, nor do I care for it. Win 8 is pretty much the same as Win 7.

Are you able to resize and put multiple open windows on one screen?

on the standard desktop yes, in metro specific apps no. Win8 is not as bad as some would have you believe not is it quite as non intrusive as some would have you believe either. While it is not the end of the windows world I am hoping it is not M$'s intent to start a metro exclusive world for the future either...................
