    Hi there,

First post and a desperate cry for help!!!

I have a new Samsung Q35 which I have dual installed Xp and Vista on, problem is that both have major problems connecting to my Belkin wireless router which is sat about 2m's away from me!!!

When I go to available networks most of the time its not even showing.
Now my brother sat on the other side of the house has no problems.
The only way it seems to work for a while is to reboot the router!!
Can anyone please please help its driving me insane.

I have taken my laptop to my friends who has BT wireless and the same problem there, showing his connection but not latching onto it!!!!!

    Is my laptop faulty???

    Any help would be appreciated!!!

    Thanks

    S

If the laptop is quite recent you could try downloading the updated drivers for the wireless card and see if this resolves your problems. The included Samsung Update Plus utility; which can be accessed through Samsung on the start menu; will automatically retrieve updates that you need, including the update to stop the oocasional poor sound output on the left channel. None the less, when I first opened Update Plus one of the updates listed was for Intel WLAN so I would try installing this.

    Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I have downloaded the latest drivers so no idea what else to do!!!!!

Its so hit and miss, i sit there refreshing the network list waiting for it to pick my router up, then the next trick is get it to connect, sometimes it just does it straight away sometimes it wont connect at all.

Anyone with a Belkin router have this problem??

Just wondering, do you really sure your dual OS is installed properly? cause sometimes there are cases where you dont installed it properly and some of the hardware didnt work correctly because of the conflict within the OS.

Does the Samsung update utility pick up the latest drivers off the Intel site? I would go straight to Intel and get their latest drivers from here.

Another possible cause of problems with Vista is the Broadcast Flag, as documented by Microsoft here. However, the fact you can get an intermettent connection suggests that it is a driver problem although Power Management could be a cause although the default settings work fine for me.

Yet another cause of wireless problems can be interference from another network. Try changing the channel on the router.

The best thing you can do is use your recovery CD and perform a fresh install of the factory default OS, install all the drivers from your software media CD and attempt to connect through wireless with the default install. i would also recommend you upgrade your routers firmware (if applicable). If you are still having wireless issues you should contact Samsung technical support to arrange a warranty repair as it can only be a fault with your wireless adapter

Thank you one and all for the replies!

I have re-installed Vista and its just the same thing.

I have not tried changing the channel on the router, or getting the updated drivers from Intel themselves, I will try both of these suggestions, thanks.
I will also look into the broadcast flag thing!!??

Hopefully one of these solutions will work all I seem to do is refresh the network list until my router comes up, then try to connect to it. This happens a bunch of times until randomly it just connects, sometimes for a while sometimes for a minute then drops!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Its soooooo frustrating!!!!

Did Vista ship with the Q35? What OS is included with the recovery CD? Since you said its the same with your friends BT home hub it should not matter what channel the router is on.
If your Laptop shipped with XP you should re-install XP and use the updated drivers on www.samsungpc.com, if you still have the same problem you should contact Samsung

I always use the main Samsung download site which now has both XP and Vista drivers for the Q35. SamsungPC.com seems to get updated less frequently.

For the wireless drivers, I think it is best to go to Intel and get the latest.

I think I might need to contact Samsung.

The laptop came with Vista, I downloaded the new drivers from the samsung site and the intel site, and it's still doing the not connecting thing.

    What it specifically does is:

I go into available networks and it either see's my router, and describes it by name Belkin52g, or it brings it up as a unnamed network. If its unnamed i have to refresh until it comes up with Belkin52g, this is a task in itself as a lot of the time the network disappears so i have to keep on refreshing!!!

Now when the Belkin52g network does appear I have to keep on trying to connect to it as most times, (8 out of 10 times) it will just say cannot connect to the network. When Vista asks to diagnose the problem, it tells me the answer to the problem is that router is not in range, and a low signal is the problem!!!! The router is right next to it!!!!

I am beginning to feel that this is a hardware problem and not a software problem.

I'm in a similar situation. The home wireless network has been working fine for months. Then we started to have connection problems and now there is no connection most of the time. In my case I suspect the router because I have three computers all having similar connection problems. It's annoying and the only way I can confirm that it is a router problem is by trying another router.

Just a thought, but before you contact Samsung maybe you should check that the antenna are connected to the wireless card which is under a cover on the bottom of the Q35 (in the bottom right corner of the attached photo). There should be black and white wires connected as shown.

btw... this is from my own experience, maybe you can try to update the firmware for the router...

another normal "trick" is the "10 minutes offline" where you need to close your modem n your router for about 10 minutes, then connect it again. Happened few times already at my local network, n till now after updating firmware or use the 10 minutes offline trick. The internet connection goes on again like normal.
