Hi, everyone. I have installed Windows 7 laterly on my samsung x360. The laptop froze up for no reason after several minutes, it happened randomly when I open IE, a file or even the download complete notice will cause the trouble. everything works fine when the AC adaptor is pluged in , but if it is running on battery, problems occured. I have similar problem on VISTA, but it is after some driver upgrade I guess. When I got this laptop, everything works just fine. so I suspect the driver is the resource of problem. But I find it hard to convinced myself that a upgrade of driver from samsung will cause such a big problem. I do also suspect if it is indeed a hardware failure, if so I d rush to send it to samsung to check it out, since I am still under 1 year warranty period. Thanks in advance for any advise.![]()
---can't change it since the button is gray-out in my system
Updated: I sent it in, and was told that they change the whole battery compartment, or something, I am not too sure, maybe they just replace my motherboard. Install Win-7, and works fine so far. My warranty is running out quick, does anyone know if I can buy extended warranty? I am worrying whether it is going to happen again. If so, I will say it is a hardware design or qualitity issue. Since I see so many people here with same issue.

I think the problem I had on my E6400 was fixed when I changed a setting for write combing in the graphics driver. However, I can't find where that setting is.
You may want to try a different version of the graphics driver. It is very unlikely that the hardware itself has a problem.

I've got exactly the same problem with my X360. Everything works fine as long as it is plugged in, but on battery the system freezes after some minutes. This happens even on a newly installed Windows 7 system without having installed any additional drivers. However, it takes about 30 min until it is happening. With installing a driver for the Intel graphics device, things get even worse: The system freezes after some 2-5 min. Thus, it seems the problem is related to the graphics driver. I tried every Intel and Samsung driver for both x86 and x64 versions of Windows 7, but it doesnt change anything. Disabling the display themes and effects does not help either.
The system has been running perfect on the pre-installed Vista. The above mentioned write combing option does not exist in Windows 7. In summary, it seems there is no solution to that problem so far, and I will go back to Vista. Let me know if you have made any progress. -

I am having the exact same issue using the version of Vista Business that was installed when I bought it.
-
34p is the 1 with SSD ?
I am having no problems so far... -
I've been having the exact same issue and it's driving me crazy. It only started after I installed Windows 7 Business. It randomly freezes in the same manner described above, and only when on battery power. Does anyone have any ideas? I was thinking it might be related to power management, since it's only a symptom of battery power...Dunno. I'm getting desperate for an answer.

My Samsung X360 running Fedora 13 (Linux system) freezes exactly in the same way, max. 5 minutes after unplugging. I suppose that this is related to some power managment bug in the newest Intel graphics drivers.
(Using older drivers, shipped in Fedora 9-10 no freezes were observed)
I would appreciate any info on how to solve this - irrespectively on the system used - maybe thanks to BIOS upgrade or something?
best regards,
Karol -

If the Linux driver has the same display control panel as the Windows driver then there are some power settings options on the display settings page. Click on the modify settings button and disable all the options. If that fixes the freezing problem then it shows that the driver is trying to do something that the BIOS / hardware doesn't support properly.
John
PS: Have your tried BIOS 08LM which was released on 3rd December? -
Thanks for your suggestions. I'm using the new 08LM BIOS version and I have played with the power options of the Intel driver, but no luck. The system freezes as before.
-
I tried writing to Samsung support and they just told me that I should download the latest battery manager program of theirs. But that just screwed up everything and required me to input my password every time I woke the computer up so I ditched it.
They also claimed this was not a known issue. I pointed them to this thread. They have gone silent on me since then. -
I`ve updated my driver today to 8.15.10.1986 and haven't had problems so far. I'm running all day on battery and no freeze since the update. It seems to work with Vista and Windows 7 but is hard to find since it is on first look only for Windows 7, but in the details and filename it says Vista as well.
Good luck and merry Christmas -

Hello,
I've experienced some problems last week and I'm sure that the problem is about the graphic driver, like you said.
I've just boot windows 7 in safe mode and I can work for hours and hours without ac powered.
Why? Because the graphic driver is in "minimized" mode and the notebook works very very well. try yourself.
Yesterday I've installed the latest driver that the user: MaBUX360 has referered and no problems at all.
Only problems in find the download place.
If anyone needs try this mirror:

very xmas for all and keep in touch... -
Hello all, another X360 owner here on Windows 7 with the same freezing symptoms.
I will try this gfx driver and report back. -
No joy with the new Intel drivers. I'm still getting at least 2 lock-ups a day.

1. Run memtest86 overnight to check out the RAM. If you have an optical drive then the easiest way will be to create a Ubuntu Linux live CD which has memtest as a boot option.
2. Run HWmonitor and see what the temperatures do.

I also have the same problem. the video driver suggested actually made it worse. ive upgraded the bios and all the updates on the samsung support page. But still not difference. If anyones made headway please post.
-
I'm still having the problem too. Has anyone else tried contacting Samsung support? They refuse to answer my request for help. My next laptop will certainly not be a Samsung.
-
Hello,
Have you tried last update from samsung ?

I'll try... -

Check the version number with what you have already. Samsung sometimes puts new dates on old software and all the X360 Win 7 drivers seem to have 7-Jan-10 datestamps.
John -
So far, it's been stable, no lockups. Let's see how it goes.
There was nothing in the Intel release notes about this issue. -
14th Jan and still no lockups. Looking promising.

Hello browellm,
My Samsung X360 still freeze when I'm without AC power.
Have you tested without AC power?
By now, the difference is that I've not installed the latest bluetooth driver, and the Intel Chipset driver like you said.
Can you please provide full links of what drivers that you've installed?
Thanks -
Yes, this is all on battery power. The downloads are all from samsung's regualr driver site. I just compared all the drivers versions against what was installed on my laptop, and grabbed whatever was newer.

i had the same problems but i got it fixed since it was still under warranty. the samsung repair guys called me and told me the problem was a faulty motherboard. so if after updating all the software , the problem persist then send it in for service like i did. works just fine now.
-
Just chiming in to say I have the same problem. My X360 randomly freezes when on battery power. It's a lot worse in power saving mode. I sent it back to Samsung who were so nice as to upgrade the bios and restore the system to its initial state (entirely) but not fix the problem. And that took them 6 weeks! (Including shipping back and forth...)
For me the problem occurs in Vista as well as Win 7, and I don't even want to go into driver hassles. They should fix the hardware. I'll send it in again with a print out of the post where it says Samsung said it's due to the main board.
Thanks to you guys and if I should find out anything else, I'll let you know.

The same situation in Russia wit x360-AA03 samsung notebook
In service offered only re install Vista OS from the disc with notebook
and try to check problem again and gave the link to Internal_VGA_Intel_32bit_1892_.zip driver ))))
For my ask about comment why I cant install my official bought W7 for this notebook I've not got any anweres....
PS I've already checked all 32 bit drivers from Intel and after reinstall W7 64 bit - tryed too
NOTHING - THE PROBLEM STILL HERE!!!
ADDITIONAL QUESTION TO U!!!
Which moment the freeze happens?
During working with wifi or lan network and in such time writing to SSD smth? Or everywhere independent from net?
IF U DEINSTALL VIDEO DRIVER AND USE W7 OWN - EVERYTHING OK LONG LONG TIME ))))
ADDITIONALY HAPPENED THE SECOND PROBLEM - HIGH PINCH NOISE FROM THE RIGHT BOTTOM //// EVEN IN BIOS TOO////
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=364526 LIKE IN THIS DISCUSSION
FIRST PROBLEM (FREEZES) WAS SOLVED BY CHANGED SCREEN MODE TO 16 bit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
INTEL HAS MISSTAKE WITH DRIVER !!! ITS VERY UNCONVINIENT TO SEE THE 16 BIT COLORS ....
BUT THERE NO FREEZES PRACTICALY WHOLE THE DAY I WORKED ON BATTERY YET !!! -
I updated the drivers at the advice of this thread. Let's see how it goes..
-
Bought last unused X360 in Moscow. It will be second one. Set Win7 Ult on it. Will test it without charging with recomended 1892 driver. On the old one I have latest 2082 Intel driver which works just fine but still freezes in 3-4 hours on battery.
-
With the newest Intel driver they included power management for the integrated graphics. If you set the profile to "high performance" it seems to help, though it's not a 100% fix as it will still freeze once in a long while..
-
Russian guys at ixbt.com found interesting way to resolve it - ????? some questions but i think after the half of year without any work on battery - this method may be brings a hope...
-switch on in BIOS - EDB (Executive Disable Bit) to Enable
-switch on in BIOS - Low Power Mode to Enable
trying......
BIOS version 09LM
http://forum.ixbt.com/post.cgi?id=attach:17:34019:662:1
Additionaly - guys think that always depend from wrong battery...
EVERYTHING OK 7-th DAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
-
I thought it was just me until i found this thread. thinking it was my 64gb ssd made for lenovo x300 that was malfunctioning with my x360.
im giving this a try on W7 Ultimate with all default drivers Samsung provided
Did anyone find the way to resolve this issue completely? -
I have had the same problems with my X360. I thought someone would find a workaround so I waited half a year to do something. But finally I sent it back to the store for repair. First they changed the hard drive which obviously did not solve the issue. The second time they changed the motherboard which seems to have fixed it.
So unfortunately for you guys who are still faced with this problem, there seems to be no other way than returning it. -
Hello,
I cannot understand how can be an motherboard problem, because I have installed windows XP and Windows 7 both in my Samsung X360 computer.
When I boot into Windows 7, without power adapter (only battery), system hangs after aproximately 2-3 minutes.
If I boot into Windows XP, without power adapter (only battery) NEVER freezes! Never!
I think is an Drivers problem!
Or is the Video card driver, or the Wireless driver.
I think that could be wireless driver, because when I power on My windows 7 suspended account, after windows account password, the wireless starts and it freezes rapidly.
Any help for this sinptoms?
Cheers, -

Hi!
I am going to install windows seven professional os on my notebook and I am feeling a little intrepid about installing windows seven on my notebook because of reading through this thread.
I have the samsung np-x360 34G notebook and was wondering (because of the title of the thread) is that the freezing issues occurring are only with the samsung np-x360p notebook?
I would appreciate any feedback from current samsung x360 notebook owners who have installed windows seven professional or other versions and whether or not they have experienced the freezing issues discussed in this thread. Thanks. -
Hi guys!
let me introduce more clues about this problem. Actually I'm still having the same problem and I just reinstalled the system with Windows 7 yesterday. I didn't install any Samsung driver, just Windows 7 drivers but no way.
Looks like a driver problem due with windows xp I had no problems but Samsung drivers have the same problems afterwards.
Samsung must provide drivers or at least give us a solution but I'm fed up of this computer and I'm really thinking to buy another brand.
Hope we can find the solutions all together.
Cheers! -
-
If your notebook works I would suggest not "upgrading" the OS. For a lot of people this issue seems to pop up after a OS upgrade. This is all purely speculation though but I would not chance it if I were to be given the choice again..
EDIT:
Seeing as others are experiencing the same issue tells me this is not just some isolated case. Samsung's lack of support tells me they are unwilling to stand by their product. This is not merely a BIOS or driver issue. If that was true a simple factory restore would resolve the issue but it does not. I was a huge Samsung fan boy but this has proved to be a bad mistake. Consumers have nothing to gain from being loyal to a single brand. I will be avoiding the Samsung brand indefinitely. -
Well I have the same issue with my Samsung x360 and this freezing has made me unable to enjoy using it.
It's not random -- I can almost assume that it will freeze up when using certain graphics intensive programs (sometimes even looking at a video on Hulu). I reinstalled Vista Business and tried to avoid as many Samsung drivers as possible. (I installed Easy Display Manager so I could get hotkeys to work). Updated video drivers to the latest versions. Still the problem persists. -
Hello again,
Just to say that I decide to use only Windows XP SP3 with my samsung X360 (Bios 10LM) and no problems, no freezes!
nothing!
Have passed 3 months ago.
Problems: Zero.
It's strange to return from Windows 7 to Windows XP but in this way I'll take all notebook funcionalities...
What matter Samsung say : Battery 6 cell with 7 hours of autonomy if your X360 freeze and you loose your work?
Cheers4all,
Ana -
Ana,
Where did you get the drivers for your XP install? I have a copy of XP I could use to downgrade. Why do you think a fresh XP install fixed your problem?

In a non technical way, I can say that I haven't noticed any difference in the performance compared to the previous settings in the BIOS.
My question is: do these changes in the BIOS that made this solution possible affect the laptop's performance in any way ? (i.e. making the processor work not at optimum speed or performance). If so, is the affecting also happening while using AC power? -
Hi!
I was just wondering if anyone has had an issue upgrading to windows seven on their Samsung X360 computer?
I would like to upgrade my samsung computer from the windows xp edition to the windows seven edition and I am a little intrepid to so because of the freezing issues mentioned in this thread.
Thanks in advance for any info/feedback on this issue! -
I've tried installing all XP, Vista, and Windows 7 32 & 64 bit but the problem still persists even after enabling lower power mode and EDB. I believe the problem lies in the graphics card driver because I experience no hick-ups with the generic XP driver. However, immediately after installing the samsung driver it would freeze. Is there anything in particular that I am doing wrong? Perhaps there are other BIOS settings or certain Intel GMA drivers that I should install?
-
Hello
I know its an old thread but ill give it a try.
I also have this problem and i want to know if anyone have the 09LM bios file as samsung only have the 10LM version.
Thanks in advance. -

Unfortunately, the X360 appears to pre-date the current BIOS database described in this thread. It only lists BIOSes from October 2010 onwards. There is some discussion of the freezing problem here.
I am surprised to find Samsung still listing all the X360 drivers / software. It would be prudent to take a copy and back them up in case they disappear.
