    http://www.samsung.ch/products_detail.asp?ID=2445&navigationID=73&sprache=D

is the link, all other postings on .ch sites have the same specs, was curious if someone knew about the following:

    Most important:
    What speed is the HD?

    Less important:
    What is S.M.A.R.T.?
Does this model come with the finger print thing? (the pictures show it....nothing written about it)
Can one replace this HD with S-ATA drives for this specific swiss model? (I am assuming that it can for normal notebook IDE 7200 drives.)
Does one think that if I put the faster type of RAM in or one of these hd's in that it might heat up very much?

My dad comes back from Basel on the 4 of december, so I would have it by then and would be happy to post pics and a review.

    http://www.toppreise.ch/prod_73814.html
shows it for 3239.00 CHF and I think it's with tax included.
which comes to just around 2932.91 CAD using xe.com.......

anyways, I'm in the market for a laptop. I think the design of the samsung plus it's uniqueness deserves my money.
I was thinking of the ASUS V6Va 8004P from Germany, but I think this one will do just fine.

What are your thoughts about this choice?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jonathan

thanks for the link, but from country to country, the models differ significantly.

Ie, the V6Va from US/Canada is different from the two version offered in Germany.
Along with the X50 versions offered in Germany and the ones in Switzerland.

my dad comes back in two days, he is phoning around for information on the laptop tomorrow. With any luck he'll find one in stock and he'll get it shipped day of to his house and be able to bring it home for me.

    :D

cross your fingers everyone, I may be able to give everyone pics of it soon!

wow that's amazing news man, and thanks to the awsome links.

I am also looking for the same thing as you, the Samsung X50 UP.. well the one with a 2.13ghz 1gb ram and X700 with 80gb HD... etc etc.

Um, i am acutally trying to find some info to. I think one of the best locations is Computer Brokers.. the site says they are a distributor which is nice. And their price has changed to 200 less than up on the site.. so its now 3240, which is nice.

Johnathan, where do you live/?? Canada or USA? cos since your dad will be coming back in 2 days and hopefully with an X50 i would like to see it in person if possible. provided you live in CAnada, Ontario.

also do you know if the keyboard is QWERTY or QWERTZ or other?
Also has your research lead to any interestign numbers regarding the battery life??
i assume it will easily get 3+ hours.. but i was hopeing it can get like 4+ hours with CHC and undercvolting plus running at 800mhz and a reasonable brightness.

    Thanks in Advance,

    MysticGolem

Also a Swiss price search engine can be of help:
    http://www.preissuchmaschine.ch/

swiss laptops may have either swiss german or french layout.
Both are different from the US layout. The French is QWERTY
and the German (standard) is QWERTZ. I am not sure about the Swiss German, though. You can find it on the net, as I did some time ago.

Ivar thans for the link and info but on that site, there's only one retailer, but anyways, do you think you can find distributors or even wholesalers who sell the Samsung X50 XVM 2130. Located in Switzerland???

    WSXGA+, X700 128mb, 80gb @5400 rpm, P-M 2.13, 1gb ram @400mhz.

    Thanks, soo much :D

hey mystic, I pmed you, my dad didn't find any places that had it in stock, he tried all the retailers listed on the samsung.ch website, plus the ones from toppreise.ch. Some had them but refused to ship day of, which is total bs, but that's another story.

Anyways, for anyone else reading this, the specs for the HD are 5400rpm.
