I've read the announcement about ATI's new Catalyst Control Center v. 7.5. I've got an X60 Plus with XP prof., and the graphics display is not satisfactory. Is there anybody out there who's tried out the CCC 7.5 on the X60 plus? I'm really confused - does this contain the X1700 driver or is it just a piece of software that works with the driver? The Samsung site hasn't yet got an updated driver.

I've been running Catalyst 7.5 for 2 or 3 weeks, plus the 20XD BIOS. I was hoping that between them they would have got PowerPlay working. The Catalyst Control Centre is the graphics driver with a fancy interface.

The lack of power management for the GPU is the disappointing part of the X60 plus and spoils an otherwise very good package. I asked Samsung support about the PowerPlay and was told to keep waiting. However, with the X60 plus being replaced by the X65, I doubt whether they will ever sort out the power management.

I wonder, if I asked nicely, they would swap my X60 plus for an X65 because it failed to give the promised performance?

:) Never stop dreaming, John !
I´m sure they´d force you to write an absolutely positive report about this X65 then. "Display is better then a painting at Louvre, the battery is so strong it could also power a mid size city and performance is better then the one of new Airbus A380"
    Just kidding...

But i wonder if you´d show them your Samsung support here they could at least be more generous. After all you provide mostly positive feedback about Samsung machines which is more reliable than commercial presentations by Samsung themselves...

    Same sentiment here.
John, did you notice any benefits from upgrading the Bios to the Vista version (I'm still running XP Prof with delight), and using the new CCC? And did you have to uninstall the previous driver and CCC as has been suggested in the forum, before installing just the new CCC version?

I have not noticed any benefits from the new BIOS, but I haven't encountered any new problems either.

I can't remember whether I uninstalled the previous version of CCC. Perhaps I did, after upgrading the BIOS because I wanted the CCC to have the best possible chance of picking up up any new power management features in the hardware.

interestingly I've just noticed the following message about power play in vista event logs:

    0000000613: 2007-06-22 10:09:31:228 DPPEAPI.PowerReadDCDefaultValue and result is: 2
