Hi all i have a couple of questions about the above laptop i have purchased.

1/ does anyone know if its possible to adjust the amount of system ram used for the graphics, there is nowt in the bios. specs in sig (just in case)

2/ also is it possible to remove partitions using admin tools as i have a 20gig and a 50 gig partition on my 160g hardrive? which i want to add to my main partition hope that makes sense. this is my first laptop and i'm very pleased with it so far.

Thanks for any help or advise

I can't help regarding the RAM used by the graphics. Do you know how much RAM is being given to the GPU under normal use? The Performance tab in Task Manager will give you a fair indication of overall memory usage.

Regarding the partitions, you need to be sure what the 20GB partition is for, before you delete it. Any I would recommend that you keep all your own data in the 50GB partition (assuming that is D: ). If disaster strikes and you have for reformat C:, you don't want to lose all your files. Here's advice on how to remap the user folders.

If you want to rearrange the partitions, the facility is there under Disk Management (accesses through My Computer > Manage).

Hi John thanks for your reply,
i'll take a look into performance tab in task manager, when i get back from work. as far as the memory used (TurboCache up to 384MB w/ 1GB RAM and 896MB w/ 2GB RAM) found this info on the net, thats far to much don't you think?
i'm suprised it cannot be adjusted in the bios or @ the driver level

As far as the partitons are concerned when i first setup laptop it said about restarting then mentioned in dos about making a partition but i was stupid enough not to reduce to a more sensible size like 20 gig rather than a default 70gig. i just wanted to increase the size of the partition with vista on
anything major i will keep on a seperate external hardrive.

    thanks again for your help.

Ps i noticed that in some posts about this laptop, i also upgraded the ram myself to another 1 gig stick of ram which i got from Orca memory there memory selector, which is running fine and in dual channel mode according to CPU-z.

That is the maximum the TurboCache can use. When running no games it wont use any TurboCache and if the game doesnt need extra video ram it wont use it either. The Ram is alocated dynamicly by what the graphics card demands.

I think right now the R70 is only sold with the 8400M GS in the UK. Germany has a 8600M GS version but the UK does not.

To check go to the Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager
The graphics card is listed under Display adapters.

    Or use DirectX Diagnostic Tool:

click Start, click Run, type dxdiag in the Open box, and then click OK
