just recently bought a np770z5e in august, I was wondering what the easiest way to reinstall windows 8 would be? I don't have install media, just recovery partition, I have created recovery on my memory stick from the provided application, I'm wanting to reinstall as current install wont work with acronis for backup-seems to reset when reading partitions, I'm thinking the partitions need relaying out ?

    thanks

    Hi Dave, welcome to NBR.

If what you created was a bootable factory image backup in Recovery (using the steps described here), then you can re-install on a new disk simply by booting that USB stick and choose the option to re-partition and restore. Keep the HDD with the original Recovery safe.

If you want to re-install on the original HDD, you can just F4 boot Recovery and use the factory restore option in there.

Before using a backup to overwrite your disk, be aware of the risk described in this discussion: Make sure you have the right type of backup, and that it didn't show signs of a corruption during the backup process; ideally create a second backup on a different media. All described in that discussion.

As a matter of interest is that Acronis 2013 (or older) or the recently released 2014 which claims to be Windows 8 certified (but that may not be a guarantee of working with Samsung's partition structure).
