Hi guys, my sister just received her samsung nc10 today. I turned it on and saw that it came with a bunch of bloatwares. So i decided to do a clean windows xp installation but only to find out that the laptop didn't have an optical drive. I was puzzle by this issue and didn't know why. I know this sounds stupid but i don't have any experiences with netbooks. This is the first one i ever worked it. Both my sister and i were very troubled by the missing optical drive until i did some research to find out that most netbooks don't come with optical drive. anyway, so can anyone help me do a clean windows xp installation on this netbook? is it possible to do a clean windows xp installation on this netbook without an optical drive?

Absolutely. A quick Google search should tell you how to install from a usb stick, assuming you have the media to install with.

yeah i did some google search and found a bunch of info on how to make a bootable flash drive with xp on it. anyway, thanks man

to be honest a external usb cd rom drive is the easiest most straight forward way to go. usb thumb drive does work and is cheaper but its a pita. usb external cd roms are down alot to i think 65 bucks or something. you pay a little more if you get the streamlined notebook sized ones.

I've got an LG slimline drive and it is perfect. Installing software is so easy now.
I did try the USB drive route, but it was too much messing about (for me), and my hubby got sick of having to fix my mistakes, so he bought me the drive. -
bloatware? the only bloatware I found was the AV software. the samsung software is useful, and partly essential. I really doubt that the out-of-the-box install (except for the AV software) is slower than a "clean" install.

After all this, seems to be a bit snappier. Granted, we're probably talking seconds here there, but I just prefer as clean a running system as I can safely get.
Clean installs fix many of those issues, although I'm generally happy with things after removing programs I don't want (McAfee Security Suite) and then running those two programs. (I also use the CC Cleaner to completely rid myself of programs I didn't ask for).
Oh, and I do keep AV software, just the brand I prefer, which isn't McAfee.
clean windows xp install on nc10???
