Hi.
When you buy your Samsung and you do the first boot it will make a birthday backup in the hidden recovery partition.
Is it possible to do the above on a brand-new hdd.
As i want to run Xp only on my Q210 , I have all the drivers and the Xp version of the Samsung Recovery Solution III
How do Samsung create the Recovery Partition in the fist place.
I know i am asking a difficult question and i don't expect a response as i always ask difficult questions.
John.

In the good ol' days (like a couple of years ago), I'm sure Samsung included a utility which could be used to create the recovery partition on a blank HDD.
FAQ 1 here gives a link to a recovery partition removal utility. Perhaps somewhere there is another utility for creating a recovery partition.
If you can't find anything then try emailing Samsung support (link on FAQ page) and see if they can help.

Hi.
I saw the recovery partition delete util the other day when i was browsing the Samsung website, but i have not seen a creation util.
Is strange how Samsung provide all the drivers and software for Xp even the Samsung Recovery Solution III
software, but as the Q210 only comes with Vista as far as i know, you would have thought they would have provided a recovery partition creation util.
Thanks

Is the SRS III on its own disc?
If yes, did you check if that disc is bootable? It might boot straight into the partition management utility. There might also be something at the BIOS level.
Samsung aren't always very good at documenting all they offer. I don't recall reading that pressing Esc at the BIOS screen brings up a boot device menu.

Hi.
The Xp SRS III and the Vista SRS III download are around 43mb the Vista very slightly larger.
I tried running the Xp SRS III in Vista and it just asked me if i wanted to remove the Vista SRS III.
I don't think they can be booted from dos to create the recovery partition.
Samsung must be keeping that software to themselves.

One other thought: Unless your XP is the Samsung factory installation then it won't contain the script which does the initial backup to the hidden partition.
If you are using a normal OEM XP then an alternative is to use something like Acronis TrueImage to create a backup image.

Hi.
I still have my original 320gb that came with my Q210, but when i upgraded to an WD 500gb , I cloned the recovery partition to it, so i have it if i ever want to go back to Vista.
I may as well delete the recovery partition for the WD500gb when i install Xp
Can Acronis TrueImage make a recovery partition or does it just make a backup of you partition to a hdd of you choice, I so i will just use the normal SRS III.
I ordered a copy of Xp home sp2 for ebay, it`s supposed to be as retail but without the box, the link is below if you are interested.

I don't think Acronis creates a hidden partition but it lets you choose where to put the image (another partition / DVD / external HDD).
SRS III is probably good enough for your purpose.
I've already got a spare unused XP Home SP2A sitting at home. I'm intrigued by the "To comply with rules, a small piece of hardware will be sent with order." Is one screw enough?
