Has anyone gotten their Samsung laptops to work with miracast/widi after they upgraded to Windows 8.1?

I'm getting a black screen even though SWupdate says I have all the latest drivers. I have a Samsung ATIV book 7 (aka Samsung series 7 ultra) with upgraded crucial 480 GB harddrive.

I know my ptv3000 adapter has the latest firmware and works cause I tested another laptop that worked fine.

Thanks. I ran that unloader program you linked and installed the latest graphics driver I downloaded manually from intel's website.

    Worked like a charm.

But now, though I have no problems with widi/miracast, I can't adjust the brightness on my laptop screen any more. Urgggg. I hope Samsung updates their drivers soon so I can have the best of both worlds.

Widi automatic program Dannemand linked doesn't work with my Samsung laptop (well it might work if you do the mental1sts uninstall program first but I didn't try it with the uninstall first). Thanks anyway though Dannemand.

Ok, yeah I haven't tried it myself, so I cannot speak to the specifics. I just wanted to point out about WiDi being built into 8.1 as described by member xenon in the 8.1 thread.

As for Adaptive Brightness, it's a classic on Samsung laptops. Check this post about it from earlier today.

THANK YOU! My eyes were dying.

Got everything working on the Samsung now (which is really my sister's laptop I was setting up for her). Now this weekend, I got to figure out what went wrong on my asus. Already asked a bunch of questions and now down to my last resort before hiring a pro.

I can't believe I'm to the point where I'm thinking about converting to apple. What sad computer times these are.

    Hello eveyone!

I just bought a laptop (my first) a np900x4d, upadated it to win 8.1 but then widi stopped working. I figured out that the problem was that samsungs hd 4000 driver was not compatible with win 8.1, I also figured out that if I was able to run the Intel driver it would probably have worked. The problem is that my computer didn´t allow me to use the intel drivers. When I didn´t get it to work I decided to roll back to 8.0.

My question is how will I know when Samsung realese a driver thats compatible with widi and win 8.1? Because if you´re on 8.0 you have a diffrent set of drivers compared to 8.1 so maybe samsung wont update the 8.0 driver considering it´s working just fine. I was unable to find the drivers to manually download from samsungs website I have to use SW update so if SW update dosen´t tell my about a new driver I will newer know when it´s safe to update to win 8.1.

Maybe the best option is to force uninstall the samsung graphic driver after updating to win 8.1 and trying to get the intel one to work. Anyone managed this on a 900x4d?

Sorry for my bad english, it´s not y first language.

    Have a nice day

    Tjena wian700, welcome to NBR.

Don't worry, your English is fine. This is not a grammar school, and many members here don't have English as their first language (myself included).

Our Win 8.1 thread has had some discussion of WiDi, including this recent discussion. See if it is any help.

As for how to know when Samsung will have fully updated drivers, I am afraid that remains a mystery (at least to me). Your model is on Samsung's list of supported models, but several members have reported Samsung support staff saying to avoid 8.1 in general.

As described in this post I would personally wait for Win 8.11 (or whatever it will be called) as Microsoft may address some of the backwards compatibility that was lost in 8.1. But that is just my guess.

    Thank you Dannemand.

Yes my system is supported and i keep getting prompted to update. But when I called Samsung customer support to tell them about my widi problem they told me to do a recovery back to 8.0. They told me they didn't get an advanced copy of win 8.1 and that is why they didn't have the updated driver yet.

As for them not keeping drivers and updates on their support site that is just strange. I'll guess I just keep calling customer support until they tell me it's safe to update. Perhaps a more time saving strategy would be if they just posted some info on updates and such on their support site...

I'm tempted to install Intel HD4000 driver but if it fails I will have to spend half a day installing / uninstalling again, and I just don't have the time right now. I need widi and bought this machine because it had support for this feature.

Guess I might just have to be patient and wait for win 8.11. As we say in swedish "den som väntar på något gott väntar aldrig för länge"

    Have a nice day.

I recall reading that WiDi support is integrated into 8.1 so the user interface is in a different place.

Google for "Windows 8.1 WiDi". I don't think it's just Samsung notebook users that have encountered 8.1 WiDi problems.

I had some time this weekend to work on my widi problem and I think I´ve sorted it. I started by while still on 8.0 by installing microsoft basic graphic driver. That allows you to then install Intel latest graphics driver, it´s the same driver for win 8.0 and 8.1. When that was installed and working great I updated to win 8.1. Then I used the widi update tool which updated my wifi and some other drivers.

Finally i used SW update to update my chipset and a bunch of other stuff but NOT my graphic and bluetooth drivers. So far everything works great had not had any issues with the Intel drivers, brightness is adjustable and battery time is good. I even think the screen has better viewing angles but that could just be placebo. The only thing that is annoying is that SW update wants to downgrade my drivers but i´ll just ignore that.

I found the tip of installing the microsoft basic driver and then the Intel drivers in a thread on this forum but I cant remember which. A big thank you to you anonymous forumite.
