When i put my vertex 3 240gb SSD in the primary drive bay, it will boot maybe 1/10 times, the remaining 9 times it freezes with flashing underscore or at the starting windows splash screen....HOWEVER when i swap drives and put my boot drive in the auxiliary bay...it boots NO PROBLEM...my express cache is not enabled/working right now...maybe it has something to do with that since i believe the expresscache only works on the primary drive bay? Please help...its a sata 3(6gb/s) SSD and i can only utilize sata 6gb/s speeds in the primary bay!!

Not that it should stop things from working, but if you're going to use an SSD you should uninstall the express cache software as you won't need it, and I don't believe you can force it to only be used for a certain drive. There's a couple threads about how to just utilize it for storage or windows swap file in here.

As for the drive only booting 1 out of 10 times on the primary, I have no idea. That's an odd one. Shouldn't matter which bay it's in.

Just for giggles, have you made sure of two things:

    1. Downloaded the firmware update for the NP700G7C from samsung's support site and updated your BIOS?
    2. Have you made sure your drive has the most up to date firmware that OCZ has available for it?

If SATAIII only works on the primary, it may be some SATAIII issue with the controller and the drive. Hard to say. I was planning on purchasing a Crucial M4 512GB or Samsung 830 512GB soon, hopefully the same won't happen.

yes to both of those...and i have made a little progress....first of all my vertex 3 will NOT run in sata 6gb/s using intel rapid storage tech drivers...have to use microsoft AHCI....and i believe the boot issue has something to do with the fact that in our laptop ONLY drive bay 1 supports sata 6gb/s....and the aux bay only runs sata 3gb/s....soooo my vertex 3 boots perfectly in the aux bay running at sata 3gb/s...but has intermittent boot issues running at 6gb/s in the primary bay....btw while i have the vertex 3 in the aux bay(boots fine), my second HDD has no issues at all in drive bay 1............it has something to do with the sata 6gb/s and i am not content running it at 3gb/s....there has to be a fix somewhere!

btw i exchanged the vertex 3 for a crucial m4 256gb sata 3(6gb/s), put it in, installed win 7 64bit ult and running at full sata 6gb/s speeds no problem!!! and it runs quite a bit faster than advertised too...love OCZ but couldnt stand living in fear of a RESTART!! lol...so thats a compatibility issue between the vertex controller(sandforce 2281?) and my intel mobile series 7 chipset(hm76)....btw i purchased a MXM 7970m card, should come in by saturday, should be able to sell my 675m to recoupe the 500bucks i spent!!

I have a similar problem deception.........with my OCZ Vertex 2e.
If in Drive Bay 1.... it has now started AGAIN to not boot but hangs at the flashing cursor before the splash screen (to make it boot from there i have to ctrl+alt+del) which is a pain because other times it has booted fine for weeks. I have swapped it to Bay 2 and no problems. Obviously it doesnt bother me because it wont run at 6 gb anyway. But it does raise the question that OCZ hardware may be sort of incompatible or the express cache is messing around with it.

did you uninstall the express cache drivers? It's just another device without the drivers.

Yea uninstalled them and it works. Reinstalled them after it found the OCZ drivers and its still working touch wood.

On another note......I inserted a USB drive today prior to boot and then booted. This came up with 'A disk read error has occurred ctrl+alt+del to restart' message. Whats that all about. Is the BIOS thinking its a bootable drive?
