Does Samsung make their own notebooks? (I guess the term is ODM)
I read somewhere they used to make laptops for DELL but I don't know if this is accurate..

    Thanks!

    1. As far as I know, Samsung design and manufacture all their notebooks (the factory is in China).

    2. Yes, Dell liked one of the Samsung notebooks (I think it was the Q30) so much that they rebadged it and sold it as the Latitude X1. A side-effect was an agreement (which expired in 2008) that Samsung could not sell their own notebooks in North America.

    Thanks!
So, Samsung does in fact make their own notebooks but assembles it out of the country? Why don't they do it in korea? Is this common practice for ODMs?

They started selling samsung laptops here in Belgium recently, stating they would want to be in the top3 selling spot, next to hp and acer.

Almost every manufacturer assembles its laptops in some 3rd world country, its way cheaper.

If you really want one you probably could import it, but I doubt it would be worth it. I mailed to the tax office yesterday asking about what taxes to pay when importing goods from outside the country.
The replied to me that if I import a laptop from the Uk for example I wouldn't need to pay aditional taxes because they are part of the EEG. If I would buy a laptop in the USA I would have to pay the USA taxes AND the 21% belgian taxes aswell. So if you would want to import a samsung laptop from europe you probably would have to pay the european taxes AND the USA taxes.

    thank you!
I can find samsung laptops here but I wanted to know if they make their own or not. Why won't they offer their notebooks through XoticPC, GenTech, Powernotebooks, etc.?

I think that is matter of choice for the retailer. Some of the smaller retailers, such as Portable One, do sell Samsung. (I can recommend P1 having personally had good service from them).
