What operating system was on the computer before you installed Windows 7?
Did you use an original Windows 7 disc or one with the service pack?
And did you separately load any drivers needed to support the Intel chipset? If Windows hasn't loaded the right SATA driver then it will trip up as soon as it starts. This used to be a problem with Windows XP.

the laptop had windows 8 on it, I could never get used to it, so I found an old windows 7 disc that was here in the office then used it to format my laptop, and yes the disc was an original copy for an HP workstation.
I opened the laptop yesterday and removed the battery, and put it back after a couple of hours. the clock in the bios was reset but no luck on booting to anything, not even a bootable flash disc with ubuntu on it.
The wird thing is that the bios recognizes both SATA drives in the system info page, but under boot page it doesn't recognize anything. -

Have you tried the different options in the BIOS for UEFI boot support? I would have expected UEFI to be enabled if the machine shipped with Windows 8.
At what stage did you disable UEFI support?
Also, if you reformatted the whole HDD you will have zapped the recovery partition and, with it, the chance of reinstalling Windows 8. I took the less traumatic route with my Windows 8 notebook and spent $5 on Start8.

yes I was after the problem occurred I started messing with the bios options, enabling or disabling UEFI support doesn't help, by default it was on. and also yes when i formatted the hard drive i lost the recovery partition, I thought as long as I have the recovery samsung DVD with windows 8 in it I won't need the recovery partition.
Right now I wish I upgraded to windows 8.1 as its free from Microsoft instead of formatting my machine =(
btw when I opened the laptop i saw two buttons close to the battery, I wasn't sure what they were so I didn't press any of them. could they be some sort of a bios reset buttons ? I can open the laptop again and take a photo of the motherboard if that can help. -

There's usually a button sized battery for the CMOS backup. A photo will help to confirm if this is what you are seeing (I don't know why there would be two).

There is probably a option is bios to reset it to default settins. Have yoi tried that?

I have fixed many unit that got the same issue with this one. Unit boot BIOS, but nothing shows in Boot priority order (USB,CD,HDD...).
I have tried many ways (also flashed BIOS) to fix it to save parts/money but unsolved. The only way to fix the problem is replacing MB:
this issue happen due to user update bios but the process did not completed and MB locked up
No choice. -
I never updated the BIOS or used any of samsung software, the problem occurred when i was formatting my laptop with windows 7. I contacted the shop that I bought the laptop from. and he said it is a common problem with samsung laptops, and I have to send it to him or samsung service to be repaired since it is still under warranty. =( -
Hi i have the same problem. i do a clean install (format) my pre installed windows 8 to windows8.1 single language and its work for me!
go to your bios and make sure its enable the SECURE BOOT ( UEFI MODE) and the FAST BIOS MODE is DISABLE!
download the windows 8.1 and use rufu to make a bootable disk make GPT partion for uefi and make fat32 filesystem
that method is work like a charm for me
after that download RW-EVERYTHING to view your product key embedded to bios! and activate it
hope its help! sorry for my bad englishhave a great day a head!
