does the samsung q45 have a hdd caddy? i just bought one from ebay and the hdd & hdd caddy were missing (seller says they'll refund me the cost of these items so that's ok), anyway i can't find a hdd caddy anywhere. to me it looks like it would be fine without one and doesn't look like it needs one but i just want to confirm this. so basically: does it have a hdd caddy, if yes then would it be ok to put a hdd in there without one? i've put a hdd in it from my old hp laptop and it doesn't move around at all even if i shake the laptop.

i really like this laptop. considering the age of it i think it looks really good! and yeah i just really like it for some reason :).

I think the Q45 is similar to the Q35 I owned a few years ago. If that is correct then there is no caddy and the hard drive is a tight fit into the bay with some rubber pads to hold it in place.

As long as there's the connecting cable and the cover then you should be fine. If you can detect any looseness then create some DIY packing using pieces of rubber or stiff foam.

    thanks.

the cable is there. although i think it's broken so i bought another one for about £6 which should arrive tomorrow. i read that the cable breaking is quite a common problem and that the cable is fragile, so i'm gonna be careful with the new one. i might have broken it when i bent it. when i turn off the laptop the hdd makes that noise that happens when its shut down, so it's being powered, but data isn't working. hopefully the new cable will fix that though.

07/11/14: i got the cable today and it didn't work so i'm returning the laptop :(. the connection on the motherboard was a bit dodgy too. hopefully i can find another one on ebay :).
