greetings notebook comrades, sitting in front of my new notebook samsung series 3 on win8 x64.
replaced the hdd with a samsung ssd, new too.
here is where the problem starts. since the replacement of the hdd some fan is going crazy. just moving the mouse accelerates it to 100% by the sounds of it then straight back to zero.
it doesn't adjust to the temperature at all. up down up down within seconds. i wouldn't even mind if it was steadily on 100% but it goes on off on off NON STOP.
so i went back to the hdd, problem fixed. ok must be the ssd i assumed - got me a new one and back is the issue. the noise is not coming from the sdd itself though.
there is no fan option in bios.
everything is up to date, fresh os install as well (twice already).
modifing windows energy options has no effect at all.
speed fan has no effect on it as well.
there must be some way to control the fan. at this point i don't even need it to adjust to temperature but at least force it to a fixed value via the registry maybe? all i use is ms word and office so there is absolutely no heat issue.
    assistance is HIGHLY appreciated

oh and share your btc adresses and i'll donate a bit if it helped, thanks
    :hi2:

The fan won't be running without reason (ie something is running hotter than before).

I wonder whether the presence, or absence of, the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver is creating extra CPU activity. We had this same issue on another Samsung notebook very recently.

So, if you haven't installed Intel Rapid Storage then do so. First try any driver offered by Samsung for your model and, if that gives no improvement, go direct to Intel for the newest one (and if you have already install the Samsung driver then try this as well). Then, if the problem is not fixed, uninstall it.

Samsung's SW update offered me the latest version of it so I went with it and it made no difference. I don't think something gets hot at all. Even right after start, not even achieved working temperatures and it is still doing this like mad.

Did you check that the IRST offered by Samsung is the latest by checking at the Intel driver downloads?

Try a CMOS reset by shutting the computer down then unplugging the mains power, removing / disconnecting the battery then holding down the power button for a minute.

If that makes no difference then what CPU temperature is HWiNFO reporting?

    update:

when the cable is plugged in it stays at a steady level. the moment i plug it out it starts becoming crazy again immediately.

so i went over the power options and adjust each option for battery to be the same as plugged in

    made no difference

Try reinstalling Settings since that does power plan configuration.

If that doesn't fix anything then use SW Update to find a newer version (not necessarily for your model since it is a generic program).

    1. I always use the Samsung Optimized Power Plan. Note that Silent Mode or Eco Mode should make the CPU run at minimum speed (which slows down the computer) to minimise heat and fan activity. Normally, you shouldn't need to select either of them.

    2. I mean a newer version of Settings. It's a generic program so you should be able to use one from a newer model and it might have some bug fixes.

I don't care if it slows down the CPU at this point.

Settings tool is the latest as well.

I changed to windows 7 now, same issue. CPU goes berserk with ssd but not hdd. With power cable plugged it's silent tho
