First Samsung Ultrabook Announced - Laptoping's News, Reviews, and Deals
-
................ can this really be of no interest?
-
Well, last time Samsung announced a product (the 7 series and the 14" version in particular) it took them many months to get it out to market. So I am not gonna be interested in any Sammy until it is shipping.
The 14" Chronos was supposed to be available on Oct 2nd. I had been waiting since then. It only started shipping a few days ago (purportedly; I have not really heard of anyone having gotten it as of yet).
I'll take any Samsung release announcement with a grain of salt from now on. -
it makes me cry that no-one can get their head around the idea of a slim-line laptop with a GPU but without an optical drive.
the 13" was looking so promising, and then samsung blew-it just like the rest. -
Intel has defined what the Ultrabook is and gives financial incentives to follow those, hence why no 3rd party GPU.

That is all fine and good to call it something else, but then you lose out on all of Intel's marketing effort. Other issues the OEMs need to deal with is battery life and heat, GPUs tend to be harsh on both.
I believe we will see some really cool Ultrabooks (with surprises) next fall in conjunction with Windows 8...
unibody Series 5 ultrabook in 13" w/o GPU or optical and 14" with GPU % optical
