I got rid of samsung control center because it's a slow and annoying software that is completely redundant to what windows 7 can already do.

The volume FN keys work just fine but the brightness ones don't work. Any idea why? I always need to go into the menus to change brightness which is quite annoying.

Has anyone managed to fix this? Why would the volume keys work and brightness keys do not? Also the "turn off trackpad" works, as wells as pgup, pgdown, end and home.

You probably need a program called HKCMD.exe (that's what is is called on my Series 9). It's probably in the control center installer package so you may be able to install it separately. On older Samsungs it was called Easy Display Manager.

I do have that process running on my machine. Perhaps it's a different EXE. I will try to load the samsung one. Thanks

You can see if the XP version of Easy Display Manager will work with Win 7. Of you can search downloads for older Samsung notebooks for a Vista version of Easy Display Manager.

Here's a link to the WIN7 version of easy display manager that is available for the 1st gen 900X3A - don't know if that will help with this model:

Would this work on a X4C (15") also?

Will I get support for all function keys?

    thanks in advance

I've taken a second look at the normal processes that run on my X4C and find that in addition to hkcmd.exe in the system32 folder there is dmhkcore.exe in the Easy Settings folder with the description of "Easy Display Manager". You may want to try it as a standalone installation if you haven't got Easy Settings installed. You can first try manually starting it and see if it works. If that is successful then you can try jumping through the hoops to get it to automatically start.

    Thanks John (again),

I'll try to run the dmhkcore.exe standalone and see if it works.
