Hi, my q310 is overheating and i think samsung might have finaly figured that their is a problem with it, they are getting a technician or someone to phone me about getting it repaired soon.

The thing is, that i don't want it repaired i would like a rma so i can goto john lewis and say " heres a rma please replace my laptop" as i need it asap. Could anyone tell me if this is possible and how i could ask for it.

also what are my rights, am i entitled to a replacement or something.

    thanks in advance

Normally they replace notebooks that go wrong in the first month. That's what happened to Pillowshot. Once you can get Samsung to agree that there is a problem then they should issue an RMA number.

    Q310 : fredted40x - cpu 44c - gpu 62c P8600
    Q310 : orca1 - cpu 44c - gpu 62c P8400
    Q310 : pillowshot - cpu 38c - gpu 47c P8400
    Q310 : Wizard Of Oz - cpu - gpu P8600

    Q210 : TinderboxUK - cpu 31c - gpu 44c P8400

the processor I have is the p8600 (2.4Ghz) and the hard drive is a 320 fujitsu drive.

I got mine from john lewis too and as far as I can tell they only do one model of the q310 there.

I'm going to let mine cool down a bit now and then restart it on a flat surface so I'll post my flat surface results somewhere a bit later so you can have a better comparison with yours.

Whenyou say you graphics only heat up to 44 is that with the help of the fans, do your fans keep on speeding up when doing light work?

The fans come on and off every few minutes at idle , the gpu is between 43-46c , mostly on 44c

OK, I've attached my temps here and in the temperature thread.

It contains the initial temps on start up, then on 30mins and finally 1 hour, idle on the samsung optimized battery settings with all stock settings nothing changed at all.

Oh and I find that my fans speed up every now and then, i haven't really checked how long between speed ups though.

It look like 35 cpu 49 gpu , i will take the 30min one, as whatever you have the notebook on will start to heat up and affect the readings, as the fan will be pulling in already warm air.

    Q310 : fredted40x - cpu 44c - gpu 62c P8600
    Q310 : orca1 - cpu 44c - gpu 62c P8400
    Q310 : pillowshot - cpu 38c - gpu 47c P8400
    Q310 : Wizard Of Oz - cpu 35c - 49 gpu P8600

    Q210 : TinderboxUK - cpu 31c - gpu 44c P8400
    Q210 : Manic Penguins cpu 31c - gpu 44c P8400

I am not 100% certain of Manic Penguins idle temps, but i think they are very close to mine.

Also there might be a difference in temprature between different HWmonitor version, I use v1.11.0

    regards

    John.

    Hi.

Were you reaching 70c when running in silent mode, do the fans run at all?

I will try my Q210 in silent mode and see what happens.

    regards

    John.

EDIT : results on idle, silent mode for 10mins, no fans cpu 38c gpu 50c

yep i get 70 in silent mode and then the fans take it bakc down to 64 and then the temps just rise to 70 again, in normal it used to keep kicking in the fans at 58 but its now kicking the fans in at 60 something in normal mode so somehow its changed

woot, i just went into john lewis today, i pretended i knew technology but said that i rang samsung and they said to get john lewis to ring them for a rma ( i said to john lewis " i hope you knew what that was because i dont'") and becuae i knew about the rma they just replaced it for me and they are going to ring samsung and get the rma themselves as samsung doesn't give the rma to customers.

lol they didn't even check if the laptop was in the box. I think they just wanted to get home

hopefully it was just that one that was faulty and not the whole batch that john lewis has. Will update later

lol, i was looking at the Q/P210's but the q310 is about the right size for me, one point i nearly decided to get rid of the old overheating q310 and get a q210, i only changed my mind right before he procesed the refund.

There is no difference at all, apart from the fans being a bit more quiet, the graphics still heats to 59 when at idle and instead of the fans at silent coming in at 69-70 they now turn on at 63
