which WLAN driver - atheros or intel or qualcomm? (drive manager doesn't show)

added note- the driver named qualcomm is a different driver to the one named atheros, there are three drivers. Though qualcomm is an atheros thing like atheros qualcomm.

list of drivers for my laptop
    Support for NP350V5C

device manager just says the following, but no indication of whether WLAN is intel or atheros.

    Network adaptors
    -Bluetooth device (Personal Area Network)
    -Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI)

    Other Devices
    -Ethernet Controller
    -Network Controller[/QUOTE]
    ...................
    ..................

added after solving (I also got-past tense and not presently- a yellow exclamation mark for Network controller)
    - I think I Had Realtek LAN listed there even then. And also, hence, I had and still have LAN. internet access via cat5.

Is your WiFi device working properly? It should be under network adaptors. Did you try Fn+F12 (or easy settings) to turn it on? Does Device Manager show any unconfigured devices? If so right click and select the option to let Windows search for a driver. Or it might be one of those Other Devices that is not configured properly. Try uninstalling them and let Windows redetected the devices. If it still doesn't show up as a network adaptor then it's time to look inside to see what is there.

It's also possible that Easy Software Manager / SW Update might be able to figure out which is the right driver.

    Solution is this.

You install all three, and Windows will then detect it and what it is fine.

    some explanation and elaboration-

What is happening, is the download section has 3 WLAN drivers(albeit separate downloads) because it's a driver package for that series of laptops. (some have intel some atheros some qualcom). Intel was most likely for my particular laptop but it's not possible to tell.

I had tried Intel but Windows hadn't detected it, which suggested or implied that it wasn't Intel.

I tried all three and Windows detected it, and it was Atheros.

    So, all good.

And installing all the drivers is fine. It doesn't install any software. So it's just allowing windows to detect those other types of hardware in addition to yours. So no big deal. No harm in that.

@John No it wasn't working because when I wrote that post, drivers weren't installed. So for example, I didn't get a list of wireless networks coming up even when unplugging my LAN cable. As you an see from my post it was not listed under network adaptors. I did(past tense) have a yellow exclamation mark under network controllers. Fn+F anything can't be done yet 'cos haven't installed software yet(that requires easy settings or perhaps previously called easy display), so can't comment on the software ideas you mention. I had tried detecting them with right click.. But windows couldn't manage it, which was probably why they came up undetected in the first place. I had to install all three drivers and then it found the one it was. No need to open it up!
