    hey guys. awesome site.

i'm looking for a samsung laptop. i live in the usa, so it could be a little while before i buy one here. if they aren't available come this fall, i'll import.

however, which model do i need? the site isn't specific.

there will be alot of multitasking. i am a college student, and will also be using it for minimal gaming, but alot of media-related things. if possible, video out would be awesome.

    thanks.

    sorry about that.
    1) What is your budget? no higher than 2000. BUT i don't want to spend much importing. it's almost not an option to import it.

    2) What size notebook would you prefer?

    B or C.

    3) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in. USA

    4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? i only want samsung.

    5) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook? LOTS of multitasking. web browsing. basically all of windows office tasks. and everything media related.

    6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk? both.

    7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games? rarely. roller coaster tycoon type, low quality.

    8) How many hours of battery life do you need? ALOT. as much as possible, without the battery sticking out behind the laptop.

    9) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person? no.

    10) What OS do you prefer? vista.

    Screen Specifics

    11) Would you prefer standard or widescreen? wide.

    12) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?

    any of the widescreen.

    13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? don't care. whichever is best for watching movies / working in occasionally well-lit and classroom environments.

    Build Quality and Design

    14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? very. black.

    15) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last? hopefully the USA, and about five years. if not, import.

    Notebook Components

    16) How much hard drive space do you want; between 120 and 200.

    17) Do you need an optical drive? DVD-ROM and DVD-RW, if possible HD-DVD

Unless you know for sure that Samsung won't be marketing computers in USA for a while, it would be better to say that we don't know of any plans for Samsung to move into the North America computer market in the near future.

.tom had said a few months ago that he thought that the no-competion agreement will Dell would run out this year and I wonder why Samsung put on such a good show at CeBIT.

in addition to the comments made, i don't think Samsung do any black laptops, apart from maybe the Q1???

I also believe that Samsung are a blu-ray backer therefore not likely to get a the HD-DVD drive you request (could be wrong on this though)

and finally, getting a 2.5" hard rive of that capacity is going to be a tough requirement to fill, you would probably have to buy it after buying the laptop and replace it. The only unit i could find was from Toshiba only 4200rpm, and weighing in at over $200 USD

in short, i think you are **** out of luck

    sorry!

Look in the Samsung news thread for the new models. The R20 is shiny black and the Q45 is also black. There may be others.
