For the first time in its history, Windows Defender is not in the last place! Still heavy but this is a small improvement.
And before anyone comments, K7 Antivirus is the king of False positives, don't even think about trying it! It will wreck your system!Papusan likes this. -
quite interesting... I was thinking about get rid of McAfee, but it seems to be one of the best around.

I haven't installed any anti-virus in many years, does windows defender stay disabled permanently while a secondary one is installed? Or will they both be running and you have to force defender to stop all the time?

I've always disabled it out of an abundance of caution. It's easy enough to do via Group Policy Editor on W10 Pro/Enterprise. For Home edition you can use a program like SharpApp. Though since my NOD32 subscription expired, I've gone back to Defender, and it's been working fine. -

It disables itself once you install another Antivirus but here is how I do it to ensure nothing is running:
1) Disable Defender from within its settings, all of the checkboxes
2) Disable it from Group Policy Editor
3) disable its services, they are protected but once Defender is disabled and you reboot, running the below reg file will then work and the protected services will be changed from Automatic to Disabled
