The latest AV-Comparatives testing results of the performance impact of major antivirus solutions is out.
For a free security suite, MSE did very well. Norton edged out ESET by a margin, and Avira claims top spot.
Of course, this only addresses performance, and not how successful each antivirus was at blocking and removing threats.

Kaspersky is my top choice for antivirus products
-
i own a lic to avira and while i agree it is light its imo is def not the lightest one out there so i kinda disagree with this imo eset is lighter and norton is still lighter yet. as i said i own all three

I see one problem... Kaspersky Anti Virus is just Anti Virus...
Microsoft Security Essentials is anti virus and Anti Spyware...
Also - on a SSD Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS not KAV) is much slower than MSE - especially at log in where its slowing it down for at least 10 seconds... and it delays programme startup - which this test showed too.
And why was the test only run on XP? - What about Vista? and Vista 1.1 aka Windows7? -
What do you mean it doesn't detect spyware? And it takes care of serious threats/infections that MSE cant handle. MSE is great for being free not so much in terms of removal of serious problems.
The most trusted virus and spyware protection with the essential protection you need to protect against Internet threats.

So why is it called "Anti Virus" if its Anti-virus and spyware etc?....
-
Because its a mouthful for the average consumer to say. It was reduced to "antivirus" so it doesn't confuse the consumer, would you really want to be asking a sales rep that if you didn't know what those terms meant? Most consumers can only recognize "virus" and aren't familiarized with other types of malware. The Buzzwords are "Anti-virus program" or "Internet security program". The main difference between the 2 is that an internet security program has a firewall, phishing detection and parental controls, essentially they stop the same type of malware but one has more features.

Not sure about Kaspersky, since it's been a year since I've used it, but Norton Antivirus handles spyware and other malware as well as viruses. There are some antivirus programs out, though, that handle only viruses and not spyware (there's a separate antivirus + antispyware edition; I believe Webroot has this).
Antiviruses: next to browsers, the most contentious software preference among Windows users

Ccleaner doesn't use any resources untils its in use and cleans out your history and cookies. Gets rid of some spy cookies. -
Very satisfied with Avast and glad to see it's results on the Performance Test are good.
