I don't know why anyone uses AVG... My roommate called me in his room yesterday because AVG flagged my VPN software as a virus and automatically removed it. I ended up having to restore his gateway manually (one good thing about DHCP is how easy that is) and install the VPN to another folder because it changed the permissions on that one so that it was a system folder and I didn't feel like fussing with it to take over the old folder then exclude that folder from AVG.
I wish he would just switch to Avast but he's stubborn and set in his ways.
When I worked at a help desk for a company that did the online learning platform for most of the major online colleges in the US, AVG pushed out an update that completely blocked people from being able to access their classes and we had to walk them through removing AVG (disabling it did nothing) and installing Avast to get them back in...
AVG is the false positive king, I've seen many machines be thoroughly trashed by it, and it's inferior to Avast in every single way. I don't get why it's so popular.

I just use my brain as the AV. I dont have any mission critical files not backed up and I reinstall OSes too often. A lot of my stuff now is done in VMs anyways.

Last time I tried AVG was about 6 months ago, after installing, any file I download would appear corrupted when trying to open it, then I checked, it corrupted my entire HDD so I had to format, get rid of and spend a full day's time to restore everything from a backup!
Did you miss this as well:
AVG putting millions of Chrome users at risk
Ever since you recommended Avast to me and I tried it, I've been using it despite me having a 7 year license for NOD32, it's just that light, literally 0 performance hit as if I had no AV installed! I bought Avast Pro AV so I won't see any popups/nags, I am allergic to ads

Avast just started blocking XDA forum and giving a warning, I browse it every day, I ran ccleaner and it`s still blocking it, I had add the http to the Avast exclusion list.

Please report it here: https://www.avast.com/false-positive-file-form.php
In the attachment, include anything like an image of the website just to be able to complete the form. They responded to me within 2 days about some FP I reportedTinderbox (UK) likes this. -
I don't want to start anything with my roommate over his AV but he keeps blaming my VPN and I don't have any issues with the VPN whatsoever. Oh well.
Glad that you're liking Avast - I've tried most AVs and just keep coming back to Avast.
As for the XDA issue, I haven't had any problems but I run ABP and Privacy Badger in Chrome. I've had issues with XDA ads in the past. -

It is very likely for crappy AVs to detect VPNs as FPs....webroot SecureNowhere is another one that does thisEthrem likes this. -
Meanwhile, Avast has their own lol

The only "AV" I have is MSE lol, I don't even know why I keep in on my machine.
In any case, Malwarebytes Pro + Malware Anti-Exploit is enough for me. Of course good browsing habits, AdGuard, and a pretty decent backup schedule also helps with my peace of mind. -
avast flagged up hotmail as a virus last week and deleted part of it. i couldnt check any emails for almost 1 hour. after an hour a updated patch fixed it.
ive been using avast for 3 years now and renewel is due in 5 days. even with the 5 or so false positives ive had in the last year i think i will be sticking with avast even though £39.99 has gone up for 1 year as previously 2 years only cost £45 -

The warning is no longer showing up, it must have been reported.
