Alienware m11x Antivirus

Well, I want to know what Antivirus are you using at the moment on your m11x and the Antivirus you consider is the best for the m11x.
Btw, i will get the McAfee, but i think i will change it for Norton.

 

Eww on Mcaffe and Eww on norton. But that's just me, never liked those two companies and never will. I personally use AVG, not the free one but the most comprehensive. Works like a charm haven't gotten any viruses yet and I don't even notice it running. I also used Kaspersky for a while and that was a great anti-virus as well.

 

Symantec software is a bloat-ware crap. And Mcaffe some narrow-minded crap.

Use avira instead. Free antivirus - Avira AntiVir its free, light and easy to use. Never had problem with it

 

Avira. Used it on my Portege as it's low on memory requirements but still does a good job. So I've just stuck with it.

 

microsoft security essentials seem to work well for me

 

Avast! is the best AV I've come across, less bloated than anything else on the market according to many users.

 

Avira and avast are pretty good IMO.

 

MSE is small and effective. That is all we use at the moment in the family.

mcafee antivirus which come with m11x is a big hoax...they are giving u an antivirus which cant even do simple stuff like exclude a certain type of file or folder from scanning...i want a refund on the av...

now i am using avast..it is free and a million times better then the mcafee antivirus...

 

avast all the way. the free version is great but has no firewall. the pro version is well worth the upgrade.
used norton,mcafee,avg free and avg pro and avast has been the best so far.

 

Best Paid - Norton.

Best free - MSE/ Avira/ Avast.

 

McAfee missed 30+ viruses that were found immediately when Avira was installed on a family members computer.

Avira is my favorite free antivirus, but Avast is also good.

For paid ones I would say ESET NOD32 or Kaspersky.

 

I would bet that those posters bashing Norton have not used Norton Antivirus 2009/2010 - those versions were from-the-ground-up rewrites that focused on minimal system performance impact and maximum transparency. Of the antiviruses I've used (Kaspersky, ZoneAlarm, McAfee, Avast, Avira, ESET Smart Security, MSE), I would say it's probably the best, in terms of security, minimal system impact, etc.

I am currently using MSE as my Norton license has expired, and it is also quite a robust and lightweight antivirus. I'd probably say it's the best free alternative.

 

For me MSE is very good. If I wasn't using that, then I would be using Avast.

 

I'm testing Trustport now for a couple of weeks paying attention to system performance on my m6500....it uses Bitdefender and AVG engines. Has high detection rates.

In the past I can vouch for NOD32, Bitdefender ...paid
Avast, Avira, MSE, Panda Cloud.... free

Maybe Trustport don't know yet... (so far I'm liking the 'transparency' of it).

PS: Panda Pro 2010 will downright lock the machine down against virus/malware. I've had some some desktop freezes and want to see if it's related, so trying Trustport.....

I've decided to keep Trustport on my M6500....I'm going to use Panda Pro 2010 on my other 3 machines in the house. It really is a first rate AV....it's more polished than Panda Pro AV although PPAV works very well. Seems Chrome beta was causing my desktop freezes, not Panda.

I won't mess around with viruses....after a trojan got past AVG a few years ago (and me haha), I've tried to use the best I could find whether I had to pay or not. Detection rate is key to me along with control of detection 'actions'....Panda was only knocked down the ranks because of false positives....I've had two of those...whitelisted them, no more problems...but it will stop anything you throw at it which is what I'm looking for. FWIW
