I have switched to Avast Antivirus Pro myself because it is the only Antivirus which allows me to custom install it with no additional components such as HTTP Scanner or other stuff, all I want is a good file scanner which it allows me to do via the custom install and it's super light on the system.
More details to come on my impressions about Avast -
Did I get into different timeline after I woke up? I thought you had ESET AV.
You should try Kaspersky Free AV or security Cloud which flies even on 8 year old machine with superb detection which had Avast Free installed and Quarantined malwares were getting out its jail and infecting the PC and slowing it down.
In case you want paranoid protection using Avast try this link https://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-protection-tweaks/ -
4739 ESET
4948 AVIRA
This was 1 single run. So take this with a grain of salt. -

I have a license for Kaspersky AV actually. It is very heavy, files in my software folder load in slow motion, I also don't like that you have to dig too deep into its setting just to enable PUP detections and I despite its browser extension and most of all hate that it automatically installs a VPN for you (powered by Hotspot Shield)Vasudev likes this. -

Avast was the winner of the show you are comparing the wrong products bro
Avast has a free version which is just as good but you have to do a custom install as I mentioned in the post above this.

@Vasudev I have a license for NOD32 as you know but its HTTP scanner is messing up my VPN (Express VPN) and slows down my browsing a bit. Avast is GOLD! Doesn't affect my internet or VPN, has no false positives, and super duper light. you just have to be careful and choose custom install and uncheck the bloatware like Secure VPN, Cleanup, Safe Browser, etc and just keep the essentials

Royal **** up, will post PCMARK of Avast Free in a sec.

FP and HTTPS scanner is a plus though it updates silently and installs all bloatware, so I switched my HTTP scanner to cloud addon from Bitdefender on browser. I got a 6 months license from BD for free for reporting a bug and installed it on my sister's laptop (not a taptop though) and it was slow as hell. Removed it and switched to WD. I might try Kaspersky Free because her knowledge related to web security is very low, I mean very low.

I think PUP is enabled on default on version 2019 and above. Personally with everything enabled, my PC was fast as hell but battery life was so bad that, I switched to WD with ConfigureDefender add-in from Andy Ful.

Yeah, you'll need it

people still using antivirus for home setups?
browser add-ons like ublock/disconnect/https everywhere on chrome or FF & you're basically 99% germ free at this point unless you're intentionally looking for troublehuntnyc likes this. -
Thanks. Installed Disconnect but you must get a paid subscription with it.

Disconnect addon is integrated in firefox so its unnecessary

Thanks. I use Chrome. So, I guess subscription would apply?

You like spyware? On top pay for it
Avast is ruining CCleaner -- malware, bundled software, popup ads... what's next? None should use this Malware company. Period!Last edited: Mar 29, 2019Ashtrix, Spartan@HIDevolution and Vasudev like this. -
Well, we might see a comeback to ESET or Norton!
-
Norton? Nope. Eset... YEEES. I wouldn't touch Norton with a ten- foot pole. Either Windoze's own AV or Eset. And I can live without it as well.

This!
My Norton Security review since 2 years and it still hasn't changed after I tested it last month.
Positives:
- Light on the system
- Excellent layered protection using regular AV Definition files + SONAR + Firewall
Negatives:
- Heavily bloated, even if your license is for the Norton Security and not the deluxe version, you see the same UI with buttons for things that are not covered by your license like online backup, family safety, etc. Clicking on those buttons only opens up a prompt for you to upgrade your license! No thanks! don't throw stuff in my face, I bought the license that I want because that's all I want!
- After spending about 1 hour configuring all the settings and the firewall rules which was a very tedious task, I looked for a way to save all these settings like ESET and Avast allow you to save them in a single configuration file to load the back easily if you re-install but Norton doesn't have such a basic feature. Pathetic to say the least!
- Adding to the bloatware, it has a system optimizer that defrags your drives, even if you have an SSD, it will defragment it rather than running a TRIM command which the built in Windows Defragment & Optimize Drives Tool does.
- The uninstaller leaves tons of leftovers, even if you use their standalone Norton Install and Reinstall tool which has an uninstall option, if you search your registry, you will find 10s of Norton related entries and some of them are even protected and you can't delete them even though you've uninstalled the darn thing!
- One of the most expensive security suites out there if not THE most expensive!Papusan likes this. -
Many years ago we here home got free full suite of Norton from the Internet ISP (baked into the cost). I tested it and went directly back to free Windoze AV. Then Eset Kaspersky... Back to Windoze AV and now back to Eset and will be there. I think my post above stand on it's own feets. Eset or Windoze Free. Or just forget use AV.Mr. Fox likes this.

@Papusan Speaking of ESET, have you the need for the new Deep Behaviour Analysis feature
-
As I said above... I can even live well without AV. I can't remember if I have been infected. If so... Maybe before 2000. But can't remember. Maybe i'm starting to be old?

Avast spies on HTTPS connections
Published on 30. August 2019 by Günter Born
Anyone installing an Avast antivirus solution on their Windows system should expect their HTTPS connections to be monitored. It is well known that anti-virus providers read the HTTPS connections. Avast seems to have been using a new technology for a week - and has caught on a developer version of Chrome with it.

Yes, you certainly can. As you already know, I haven't used security software for years. I've tested a few here and there, only to end up uninstalling them within a month. They're just an extra hassle that I do not want or need, and they're too annoying to put up with. The greatest security risk to any PC is the behavior of the person sitting in front of the keyboard. Antivirus and security software suites primarily benefit the companies that are selling them. Their sales are driven by fear. If a person is susceptible to fear, then the free built-in Defender is good enough. It's one of the few things left that the Redmond Retards are actually good at. The best defense is a Macrium Reflect image stored on external media, like a USB drive.Last edited: Aug 29, 2019

I won't recommend using Win 10 w/o Win defender. I usually switched my workflow 75% to Linux so it runs w/o AV and rest 25% are for Gaming and MS office/productivity/ Custom Windows 10 OS image creation and testing.
I hope MSFT make native AppImage of MSO for Linux and I can say goodbye to Windows 10.
