hey i got my xps m1710 recently and i need to get some antivirus software. it must be completely free (not a trial), easy to use and it mustn't be a memory hog like mcafee. And also, is windows firewall gd enough?
and another thing, this is a bit off topic but how do you get your own 3dmark06 score? i want to find mine out without downloading some 500mb demo version

Avast and AVG are the most popular antivirus programs. ZoneAlarm has a good firewall. I would also recommend Sygate Personal Firewall and Kerio Firewall.

does PC Tools FireWall Plus ask for permission to run every program like norton , for exmaple every game i play? and also i got like a year ago (dunno if its changed) but i hated it cos it was a memory hog.

and this is completely off topic but i dont wanna bother making another thread but does anyone know if they make 17" notebook cooler or just 15" ones. And if they dont make 17" ones is 15"s suitable for 17" notebooks?

I use Eset Nod32. I've used it for a couple years now and I've been absolutely virus free since that time; I've had a couple of bad downloads that contained viruses, but Nod32 zapped 'em before they even took hold on the system.
Plus, I like their auto-update of virus definitions about every couple of hours or so.

A good firewall program will detect any incoming or outgoing network connection and give you the choice as to whether to allow, allow always, or deny that connection. This is one of the flaws of the Windows Firewall, on both XP and Vista.
Some firewalls have a setting to automatically configure known programs; however, games would probably not be included in that category in any case. -
well i have installed pc tools firewall plus and AVG and they seem pretty good so far. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
