The company seems to get good press, but I don't think I've seen any reviews on this forum for this product.
I need a good AV program paid or not, doesn't matter.
-
See if they feature in the AV comparatives - I can't claim to have heard of them before...
If you want a free product:
Microsoft Security Essentials is great - http://www.microsoft.com/Security_essentials/ -
I wouldn't bother getting that one seeing as it's a paid antivirus and actually that is the first time I have ever heard of it. Just try out MSE or Avast 5. They both seem to work quite well.
-
I agree with Padme.
Getting a paid av these days is pointless taking into consideration there are several free ones to choose from that have a very high detection rate, are highly effective and practically impose 0 impact on the system in terms of resource use.
Avira 10, Avast 5 or MSE.
Pick one of those 3, update and just get on with your life free of charge (well, at least in terms of effective av protection). -
There is apparently a free trial, if you wanna give it a try.

I personally prefer to run Kaspersky on faster laptops, and ESET NOD32 on slower running laptops. But i certainly wouldn't mind trying this out once i get the chance. The main thing i care about in an antivirus software, is 1. It can get the job done and 2. Keep the computer running at optimal performance.

KIS - at least 2010 is rather detrimental to performance - I used to use it and have since switched to MSE.
KIS slows down the log on process by a couple of seconds (20 at worst) and slows the opening of programmes.
On a SSD this is very noticeable. -
Hi John, check this AV-Comparatives PDF report on several AV's including Trustport.
It's a summary from February 2010 AV-Comparatives on-demand test.
Mind you, it's only an on-demand test, this doesn't review any on-execution protection for instance.
OT; I can wholeheartedly recommend " avast! Free Antivirus".
It's almost as full-featured as their paid version and better than many paid-for AV's.
Cheers. -
I did notice it slowing down the system over time, with all the updates on my m1330. I have not tried to install it on my M17x, I never got to finally keeping an OS long enough, All though i think it might not hinder it as much. Speaking of SSDs, I know the chips on the ASUS 4G, are not technically SSD's but they do act like them and yes, it does impact them greatly. The laptop is so slow i am reformatting it right now.

Well, I tried KIS on a fresh install on a SSD... too noticeable.
But MSE is great
nearly no impact - or rather none that I notice.
-
MSE or NOD-32
I had not heard of them before either before today, but WILL see how it works on one of my machines. -
NOD-32 while a very good av is still a program you have to pay for.
MSE is practically equal (if not better) in detection rates and has 0 impact on the system while being completely free of charge.
As I said, getting a paid av program in this day and age is simply a waste of money. -
I believe some paid solutions include insurance? To a certain amount?
Or am I mistaken? -
Insurance?
To what exactly are you referring to?
Protection suits are only usable to a degree.
Backing up your data and keeping the most critical/sensitive files off your laptop (in a place only you are familiar with) would be a sensible precaution in an event of theoretical theft for example [because most laptops once stolen can seldom (if ever) be recovered ... and usually they'd be wiped clean for new use unless the thief tried to recover potentially sensitive info first.
As far as full Internet Security goes ... that much is covered for the most part in Avira, MSE and Avast (at least the portions you need most).
The rest is really user-dependant.
With free solutions I never have any problems despite the fact I visited many shady websites (then again, I don't go around clicking on everything I come across and am relatively careful). -
I actually thought there was a product that offered insurance as part of the suite - in case malware caused any form of financial damage - but I might be mistaken.
On a side note:
What's Kaspersky Pure? -
Hey Baserk..thanks for the link...in the past I've usually paid mostly for my work machines....like ESET, F Secure, etc etc...I've used MSE and Panda Cloud AV..over the years I've used about all the well know AVs....Trustport was 'new to me' so peaked my interest as I read someone they were a good 'communications security' company.
Right now I'm using Panda Pro AV, seems good and easy on resources; was 12 bux per computer for 3 computers...so...I'll check Trustport for grins
Looks like Trustport was close to Panda Pro 2010 in the testing...hmmmm
Any Opinions on TrustPort Antivirus?
