I was just wondering, do you disable vrdb? If it saves versions of files, it would seem that it will take a ton of hard disk space and performance away from your computer, right?
-
I'm pretty sure I leave most of the default settings. I don't recall what VRDB is, but I don't notice it. I'm running lean and mean, and I'm not noticing any slowdown.
-
i changed mine to generate vrdb when idle this way it will generate when im not using my laptop the default i believe is generate when screen saver is on but i dont use screen savers so i cant have that setting ttupa vrdb makes backups of your files so incase you get a virus it can restore back to that file. but anyways i dont notice it at all and it dosnt seem to be using hd space unless it just overides it self everytime
-
I use the option that generates the vrdb when the screensaver is running. If possible, i will like to disable the vrdb as i don't use it.
-
nobody actually uses it until you have a virus and you need to restore a system file that has been infected i barely notice it running why bother disabling it if its only running when your not at your pc anyway i wouldn't recommend disabling it
-
Is that something that's enabled by default? As I said, I barely notice Avast, and I assume a process like that would make some waves. Is that available in the free version?
Seems like a great feature, if you were to ever contract a virus. -
AKAJohnDoe Mime with Tourette's
I run a set of security products such as a firewall as well as antispyware and antivirus software. The AV and ASW are among the last lines of defense, should something get through the firewall.

yea its in the free version and yes it on by defaut if you have it installed go down to your icons by the clock lol i cant remember what they call those, and you'll see 2 circle icons an "a" and an "i" right click on the "i" and you will see options for vrdb. you wont see any affect because it wont run while ur using your pc ther are 2 settings run when pc is idle and run when screen saver runs so it never generates when your actually using your pc so it wont slow you down

How does the VRDB work?! Each time the file is infected if I press Repair it says
The file was not repaired.
Cannot process "some filename" file
OK
The only file that has created during VRDB generation is 'avast.int' in C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\integ
but it is only 8,57 MB of size!!! There is no way it could have a complete backup of system files.
If anyone knows how to make VRDB work so that it would be possible to repair a damaged file, please be kind to share the information.Attached Files:

I have it set so it only runs when the screensaver is running...since I'm AFK at that point anyways, I might as well get some use out of the VRDB. Note this is on my desktop, not on a notebook.

I disable it. never needed it

I've always had it disabled.
