    hello,

    My new laptop came with Microsoft security essential software. I recently installed the Avast free edition too. How will this affect my laptop? Can i use 2 antivirus software?

    nope. its best to remove one immediately as they will both conflict with each other.
    ive been using avast internet security for 2 years now and its been great. only had 2 false positives and no malware or viruses.

    That's what i thought, usually when you try to install a second anti-virus, we get a notification saying that the existing AV should be uninstalled. Didn't happen in this case. that's why i asked. Thanks DJ

    your welcome. with the free version dont forget to turn on windows firewall as it only comes with the paid version of avast.

    ive noticed in the past that when you load a new antivirus some of them can turn your windows firewall off so as tijo said its always best to check.
