Darth Bane, Thanks so much for the info. I manually updated to version 110411-2 as stated further down in the article and the issue is resolved! +1 REP
Time to look at MSE I think! -
As always thanks for the update but I never experienced a single problem and I was using my PC on the Net most of the day. I checked my update version and it ends in -2
-
Yup.
Happened to me last night.
I removed Avast and replaced it with MSE for the time being.
Though before I removed Avast, I turned off Web shield and then I was able to browse without problems.
I think I'll stick with MSE for the time being or maybe go to Avira for a bit. -
same here in the uk.
both my computers when crazy. yahoo, msn, hotmail, firefox, facebook and cod4 shortcut all flashed up as having trojan viruses and my other computer running my dedicated crysis 2 server also showed the same.
after a quick scan one said i had 586 infected files and the other said 8
yeh right.
sods law ive got a 2 year licence that ive just renewed otherwise i would be using alternatives. of course we wont hear anything from avast explaining and some poor sods will have panicked into believing the scan and deleting lots of files. -

For low risk users who do not download and install random crap, Anti-Virus are more likely to destroy the OS than the Malware themselves.
The reason for sticking with MSE is that I trust Microsoft test the definitions before releasing it to the clients and screwing up everyone's system.
Also 3rd party AV tend to be overzealous blocking everything in sight screwing up proper workflow to demonstrate the "Hey I am there" message.
For that, they will be off all systems I ever needed to administer. -
^I disagree. Malware is definitely more dangerous than your AV. I've had an AV absolutely wreck a computer because the person using it didn't know what they were doing but at least it didn't steal their information and sell it.

In case you didn't read properly " For Low Risk Users..."

My point stands.
Avast gone nuts
