Avast or AVG? Which uses less resources

Avast or AVG?? Which uses less resources? Which do you prefer??

Im leaning towards AVG. Remember these are free anti-virus programs.

Im sorry, i really just wanted the views of Z owners. People who purchase the Z are usually educated pc buyers. they know about specs, resources, etc. They are not the type to buy a laptop for 799 because its 799. I purchased my Z for Centrino 2 DDR3 and the display. if you ask a regular JOE they dont know what DDR is or what an LED backlight is. MODERATOR please move if you are offended. I just wanted the opinion of Z buyers because they are motivated by specs not only price. Big pants, i can see by your signature you are one of these educated people. Not many people even know about graphics cards or chips/chipsets.

 

From what I've heard AVG has really become a bulky, Norton-esque anti-virus ever since version 8.0 came out. Go with avast.

and there is a third one that starts with an A and that is not avast that i hear its pretty good

 

Avira, i think it's called. PhilFlow recommends it...

 

I think im going with Avast, hate norton, hate nod, hate kapersky, not happy with avast, its completely diasppeared from my desktop a few times but i here really bad things about AVG. with i could find more on avira

 

I got the latest version of AVG 8.0 Free. Computer specs below. No problems. Fast and light as far as I can tell. You can always try it and change it if problems. I forget why, but I found some things with AVAST I didn't like.

right now my kaspersky 2009 eats only 2,412K on my system. i really recommend it

kapersky screwed up my lisence and nod missed a win32 trojan

 

nod32 misses alot more than some people think
i would choose bitdefender 2009

but to the main question avg uses less than avast but avast is more secure n catches more than avg so i would use avast of the 2

 

yep, avast may cause some cpu hickups upon (automatic through pro version) update and even suck performance upon full system scan on older machines (pentium IV) but the product is very much worth it -on both XP and Vista! I'm using it for some time now and haven't had a single malware penetration. AVG passed through some funky threats in the past and is my second to last choice...of course who else than Norton could hit the abyss..their products where involved in so many issues on my machines.

 

Over the past several weeks I've used the freeware versions of Avira, Avast, and AVG. I thought Avira was the least noticeable on my system and AVG was the most noticeable. Noticeable being a bad thing.

My only issue with Avira was the lack of POP3/SMTP scaning. It is available on the PRO version, but not the free version. So, for me, it came down to AVG vs. Avast, and Avast seemed to work more seamlessly than did AVG.

I think in term of general protection, there is probably not too much difference between the three programs.

PS: I have Vista 64.

Well I hope my HP and Dell level education doesn't offend you, but def take avast. I have been using it for years with zero issues or complaints. Good day.

 

I used AVG for a long time. Then they brought out AVG 8. Did not like it at all.

So I changed to Avast. Just to see.

1. My lappie seems to run quicker now with Avast.
2. It does it's own thing and updates the Virus database quickly.
3. Leaves me alone to get on with work and not worry about protection. It's always there protecting without intruding.

So, for me, Avast is a far better choice than AVG.

What a load of BS that is. If you're so smart, you'd know which one is better and it's neither of those.

 

Avira requires ridiculously low resources with top notch protection. Avira uses only 15MB of resources on my system.

On a side note, I downloaded camstudio after watching the vid. Pretty cool

 

Ultimately, it's up to you (the user) to choose the AV that suits you best.

AVG, Avast or Avira are all excellent free products.

None is perfect though.
