hey guys..
installed avira on friends vista laptop, quite a funny thing to happen as it installed itself the warning windows started popping (16at a time) n hung.. it was reading some .dll file as trojan.. from the local / temp folder..
had to restart the machine ..later on avira ran nicely.. caught some tons of virus/worm n stuff..
anythin to worry off..??

Im not positive. But i believe the Temp folder is where Quarantine may be and where the viruses are temporarily stored possibly...
This happened to me bofre in AVG. i deleted (shredded) the temp folder and it was fine afterwards. -
decaPODA, yes the computer may be infected. what were the names and the path for the detected files? how did you recognize that it were avira's files? malware often stores itself in local / temp... so, after being installed, Avira could have detected some already present virus, but hard to say, you didn't provide details. - in general: if you are not sure if a file is really malicious, test it at www.virustotal.com to find out more.
ahl395, are you sure regarding AVG? the detected & quarrantined files are stored in a special file format (with .fil extension, not original files), which is *not* detected. (it cannot be, even by different antivirus - only avg virus vault can access the files.) it has no temp directory for quarrantined files, but a special vault folder in the root of each drive. this folder is hidden. -
scan the computer from the avira.
quarantine the files after scanning .
delete the temporary files from the computer.
so after deleting the files your computer will be safe from the unwanted threads. -
