Most freewares do not detect al lthe viruses, and avast is a nice program to have on the side (along with another program that I will purchase). I need some good suggestions on a program that will not slow down your computer and protect it every second you turn on your computer. I just bought a new laptop and I just want as nice program to buy. Any suggestions?

the best non freeware
NOD32
www.eset.com
very very good light weight antivrius
uses little resources. offers a security center package that will cover antispyware , antispyware and firewall.
great program -
running to antiviruses will create more problems than fix them.
Avg 8.0 is the best out there in my opinion.
All that norton, mcaffee crap is resourcehogs, slows down... -
kaspersky is a good antivirus. but i think you should use only 1 av prog at a time
-
i hear kaspersky is hard to use and nod 32 does not delete some viruses.

Check AV-Comparatives for independent test results and you will see that Avira AntiVir is the best (at the moment); link
Eset/NOD32 and Kaspersky are renowned programs and don't require much knowledge to get used to.
Mind you, not one AV program will detect and delete every single virus.
Most AV programs are build with real-time protection in mind so if you want to use 2 different AV programs at the same time, you must know exactly how both programs work and how to configure them properly. -
I use Kaspersky for my home machine (but it takes a bunch of tweaking), and I use Symantech Corporate for my work machine.
I used to use NOD32, but I personally prefer Kaspersky because they have hourly updates and because they scan every website before you load them. -
Kaspersky or NOD32. You can't go wrong with either.
-
ESET NOD32, or better yet ESET Smart security suite (interactive firewall, antivirus and malware scanner)
-
ESET NOD32.
You can safely close this thread now mods.
